Myself and Bro-in-law activated a belated birthday present from my wife and his sister Liz.
We went to see with our respective good ladies, Nils Lofgren last night on the Phil in Liverpool, outstanding vocalist, musician and orator.
First saw him 35+ years ago across town on the Empire on a bill with Tom Petty.
On that occasion his show was wilder of course with the inclusion of trampolines on stage while the athletic Mr Lofgren sprung to amazing heights his guitar skills pushed on to headier levels.

Last night was 'a night with Nils Lofgren and friends' which meant the man on stage for over two hours with various accompanying musicians and the occasional hillbilly tap dancer.
He regaled us with narratives of his musical life from playing the accordion at the age of four through college and early groups to playing with Muddy Waters, Lou Reed, Neil Young, Jimi Hendrix and Bruce Springsteen amongst others.
The Digital era means the 'one man show' description is a mite overstated but our man masters and integrates the technology into his material and the result is jaw dropping.
Amazingly enough I would venture to say we enjoyed the latest show more than that one 35+ years ago.

      Yes... Ulster Hall Si.

Intense act - much better live than on the album which I thought was a bit over produced and makes them sound too much like Jack White/White Stripes (with a bit of Muse thrown in for good measure).  ;D

Truth is; my good lady is more of a fan of Royal Blood than me; I've got a bit of contrived rivalry going with her ("Want a good 'two piece'? Go 'Drenge'"... "When are they doing Seven Nation Army?"; that sort of thing). I didn't let on too much but I really enjoyed them.  ;)

As for the Foos at Slane? - Anyone (from Ireland) who's not going to that is mental. Not fussed on the support but heard a whisper Royal Blood might be added.

I'm going to see an Irish band called Villagers in May for the launch of their new album.

Great band well worth checking out.

Loads of people asking for more of the lineup announced.

      I don't care. It's the Foos, it'll be great.

I think it'll be my 4th time seeing them.
Only time it wasn't top notch was The Point, and that's because the sound was sh*t before it was revamped. (02/3 Arena)

Saw them at at Witness back in 2002 they were my favourite act in a festival which included Oasis, The Prodigy, Green Day and Chemical Brothers.

Dave Grohl will always be the man.

      FOOs were epic.
Great weather right up until they came on.
      Then. Holy F**k.
      Went home a drowned rat.

Met some great people. Had a great time.
Randomly, joined in with some lads doing the Kolo/Yaya song.
Two of us broke out the Stevie moves.

      Good times.

Ha ha random. Think I need to discover the Foos more. I've sort of liked them in passing over the years but alwAys had a feeling that I wouldn't enjoy a full album.

Will have to give them a proper go as it seems I'm missing out.

I'm not a huge fan. I don't dislike them and, in fact, do enjoy some of their songs (their first album is quite cool). But there's something about them that stops me from being a fan and listening to them on a regular basis. They're like a soft rock band in my eyes; too pop sometimes. And Dave Ghrol screaming at the end of every song (the formula is repeated exhaustively in The Colour and The Shape, btw) just annoys me. You learned it wrong from Kurt, Dave - there's no soul in all your screaming, no real feelings behind it. Listen to Kurt's rendition of "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" instead. Anyway. It is probably childish but I guess in the end I just can't get over a comparison with Nirvana - which is still up there with the very best bands ever for me. While FF are a decent, efficient rock band like many others around.

So what happens is that all my friends are huge Foo Fighters fans and I'm not. And I love teasing them with Nirvana > FF comments. Sometimes it gets heated; it's worse than Israel vs Palestine. :P

Absolutely, maybe because Grohl sat in and rerecorded it with him on the drums.

Dave Grohl broke his leg during the 2nd song, Monkey Wrench, in Sweden.
Went to the medics. Patched it up. Came back.

      Hero.
