Saturday Liverpool play hosts to Wigan Athletic.
On paper this should be an easy victory, but Wigan desperatly need points to avoid the relegation battle.
The thing that won't suprise any Liverpool supporter is that Kirkland is out with a shoulder injury (he hasn't played since mid Feb.) This guy has had cruel luck with injuries and I hope one day he will have an injury free season and prove to people he is an excellent keeper.

I'm predicting a goal fest, 5 - 0 to Liverpool to follow up the hammering on Wigan in the previous fixture.
Kuyt 2
Gerrard
Fowler
Agger.

A special mention to the fan of the day - Nicola.
Enjoy your day, and post your feelings in the topic 'your first ever lfc game' thread

I hope we hand out a decent victory prior to our Chelsea clash but I expect Rafa to field a weakened team.  But with Arsenal in some disarray behind the scenes we have a good chance to extend our 3rd place lead and leave ourselves fairly assured of Champions League football next year.

I would be surprised if he played Gerrard.  He might even give Carragher the day off.

The most intriguing part about Saturday will be the team selection because it will give us some heavy hints about what team he will pick against Chelsea.

Anyway - one of the last games of the season.  Almost feel like we are nearly reaching the point of our season analysis and forum player of the year and stuff....

Maybe we'll hold off till May 24th.

I agree jaba, RAFA wont take any major risks concerning possible injuries with a semi-final coming up. Reina, Arbeloa, Hyypia, Agger, Riise, Pennant, Mascherano, Momo, Gonzales, Kuyt, Fowler would be my team. Alonso for momo, Crouch for Robbie to sub around the last 20 minutes.

Totally agree with that. But maybe Fowler might come off the bench for Crouch after we've (hopefully) secured the points? Only because of the lack of starts for Robbie's had this season.
Concerning injuries though, if it were me, I wouldn't be taking any chances.

I'm hoping for a Kuyt 1-0 lead in the first half after a dogfighting performance from Wigan. Then another two for us in the second half. Hypia header and a Fowler flick! Wink

Gerrard on the bench today, I'm a little shocked by that, but I'm hoping we'll still win 2-0 to the red's.

Surprised at the team selection.

Alonso, Zenden, Pennant and Gonzalez in the middle.

Pretty 50/50 in the first 10 mins.  Pennant looking lively and Riise had once of his trademark shots.  With Arsenal only drawing this is a great chance for us to extend our 'safety' margin in 3rd.

Turning the screw a little bit now.

Good chance to keep the pressure up and grab a goal.

Riise's had three strikes and Crouch had a great chance but a great tackle by Wigan took the ball away from his feet 10 yards out.

Great goal by Dirk.  On 30th minute after a good cross from Pennant on the left wing.

Why didn't I put a bloody bet on!!!!! :Smiley

Could do with stepping it up a little in the second half couldn't we. Looks like Pennant's causing a few problems.

Good first half for th reds, without forcing really, the only hightlights for Wigan a call for a penalty which was never really one IMO. Great goal by Dirk, Pennant is playing very well, switching sides with Gonzales who is having a decent game. Bolo, disapointed he plays at his favorite position and hasn't shown a lot. The back four very solid, Liverpool should win that by more then 1. The danger is coming from Pennant, Arbeloa playing well too.

Much better half from the Reds, the subs made the difference. Pennant was very very good, Gonzales deserved to score but good goal keeping prevented it. Riise could have scored the goal of the season (volley at what 50 yeards out!!) and Agger score also the goal of the season after a fantastic run but screw his shot.

Nicolas will be happy, a good game to see for a first time and Gerrard and Bellers were on the pitch, surely she enjoyed that. In all a deserved easy vistory for Liverpool...bring on Chelsea!!!

1 clean sheet, 2 goals for Dirk Kuyt and 3rd spot and Champions League football secured for next season... a good day at the office.  Wink The quality of some of the crossing needs to improve but Pennant is in great form which is nice to see, (or hear).

Can anyone please help me with a link to free Premiership football on the PC? My Star Sports module was crap and I missed the 1st goal  :'(
Tried in vain to load another before the end of the match but no joy, had to make do with LFC.TV commentry (which went silent for 5mins too!  Huh?)

Any suggestions will be greatly welcomed! Ta!  Wink

Pennant's cross for Kuyt's first was excellent.  Thought Bellers was a bit of a handful and helped Kuyt with the second.

He was really going out for the hat-trick, probably worked a bit too hard looking for it.

Anyway - we have ensured qualification for the Champions League qualifiers - we can't be caught by 5th place team now. We are 4 points ahead of the Arse - should ensure an extra half a million quid for finishing 3rd.. Bellamy, Gerrard and Agger got a decent run out

But...

Rafa's got a selection headache up front for the Chelsea game now.  I really though he was hoping on playing Bellamy and Crouch but now that Kuyt's scored twice he will have to reconsider.

Good win though - and another clean sheet.  Roll on Wednesday.
