On to the Champions League we go then.

It's out of our hands yes, but we have to win to at least put ourselves in the mix. Going to be a much trickier game that it looks IMO. They gave us a decent game at Anfield and they've scored 5 goals in two game against Fiorentina (2 more than we've managed in our four games). Still a game we should win.

No news on the injury front yet, hopefully none of the lads who recovered in time for City felt any after effects. Still without Torres, right?

And to clear the qualification situation up:

Liverpool will be eliminated, regardless of their own results, should Fiorentina beat Lyon, while if the two sides draw, Liverpool will still need to beat the Italian side by three clear goals at Anfield in the final round of fixtures (after a win over Debrecen). A Lyon win would mean two victories would do regardless of the scoreline.

Come On You Reds!

Christ this reminds me of having to win by a 2 goal margain over Olympiakos in that famous season!

Doesn't it depend on how many goals are scored between us and Fiorentina against next weeks opponents determine how many we need to beat Fiorentina by? If we win 5 or 6-0 and Fiorentina draw then don't we just have to beat them in order to progress regardless of the winning margain?

Actually have a feeling we are going to slaughter Debrecen. Going to go for 5-0.

After all we hit the biggest ever win the competition with Torres out injured and Voronin (yes Voronin) on the pitch laugh

It's not a good situation to be in, but with no pressure on us this will be the right time to see Aquilani play from the start, I hope a few of the others are back because from now on I would like us to play teams of the park, I know we are good enough, and it's not if, but when we get the players back and get the season going again.

What we have seen lately is the worst injury list I can remember in 30 odd years, our luck will also change, although listening to some in the media we are out of everythimg, no way are we, this season is maybe beyond us, but we can put a dent or two in certain teams who think of our young players as a spent force, we'll see.

F**k you! You will walk alone! We will kill Debrecen. Lyon will beat Fiorentina by a hand ball goal!

Did you forget that we've won 1 in 10 games. This is gonna be a tough game not a ride in the park.

Not expecting any favours from Lyon. They're through.

And Fiorentina will not want to come to Anfield needing a result, regardless of our current form, so I fully expect a Fiorentina victory unfortunately.

No idea what team Liverpool will put out but what I do know is that not all of our players will be 100% fit. We'll be carrying some passengers - either average players of players lacking match fitness.

This is going to be a very tough game especially without Nando  - remember how hard it was to break them down at Anfield - so I'm sure it'll be ahard fought contest.  Hope the lads are up for it despite knowing our destiny isn't in our own hands  Sad

Just realised that it's not as difficult as I first thought. For some reason, I thought Lyone had to BEAT Fiorentina for us to stay in. Didn't realise that they only had to draw to keep us in with half a chance. Still a mountainous task, though.

Can't remember who said it I think it was Gary Macca - he said why the hell would Lyon do us any favours? Surely they would be benefitted if Fiorentina went through over us. Cant see it happeneing I'm afraid, I think we'll go out Tuesday Sad

They're not guaranteed top spot though.

I can't really see them intentionally doing us a favour but I still think they will put out their strongest side possible so they can try and top the group and in theory get a potentially easier tie in the next round.

I am sure all teams would rather have Fiorentina go through ahead of us.

Well, we are out as long as Fiorentina beats Lyon even if we beat Fiorentina and Debrecen.

The table would look like Fiorentina 13, Lyon 10, Liverpool 10 and Debrecen whatever points.
Even if we have a better goal difference (I.e. we go on rampage against Debrecen and Fiorentina), Lyon would beat us to 2nd spot because they beat us 2-1 at Anfield and drew 1-1 in France. So there's like a mini table between us and Lyon which looks like this right now Lyon 4, Liverpool 1.

Let me just TRY to break it up to those who might not understand.

So, we can only qualify depending on the Lyon-Fiorentina game and provided we beat Debrecen

Fiorentina win
We are definitely out

Fiorentina draw
(After Lyon-Fiorentina but before Liverpool-Fiorentina)
Lyon 11
Fiorentina 10
Liverpool 7
Debrecen ??

If we win
Lyon 14
Liverpool 10
Fiorentina 10
Debrecen ??

However, we will only qualify if we win 3-0 or any win with a 3 goal margin (4-1,5-2, etc). If we win 2-0, our goal difference and Fiorentina's would be looked at.

Fiorentina lose
(After Lyon-Fiorentina but before Liverpool-Fiorentina)
Lyon 13
Fiorentina 9
Liverpool 7
Debrecen ??

If we win
Lyon 16
Liverpool 10
Fiorentina 9
Debrecen ??

If Fiorentina loses to Lyon, we just need to beat them with any margin.

Ray of f**king sunshine you are. Yes, like Billy said, entitled to your own opinion. But being a defeatist little whiner does not help at all apart from just bring me down. Get positive! If you run around thinking the worst will happen all the time then you are not gonna be living a very fun life im sorry.

We do perform well under pressure don't we? I don't think we'll stroll it through, not with our current form. But a decent 1-0 or 2-0 for me.
And our chances of progressing depend a lot on the Lyon-Fiorentina match, dont forget. Its at Fiorentina's home right? Just keeping my fingers crossed and hope Lyon come away with a win, because then I am pretty sure we'll be able to get past Fiorentina in our last match.
