You'll Never Walk Alone!

« on: November 24, 2009, 10:47:59 PM »

Given our exit from the Champions League tonight I think we could all do with a bit of cheering up so how about we remember some of our great Champions League nights under Rafa.

Obviously at top of everyones list is going to be Istanbul and then probably Olympiakos but besides these 2, one that sticks out in my mind is Tuesday 1st May 2007.

We went into this game 1-0 down on aggregate and as usual we were the under dogs. Though a well worked free kick finished off by Daniel Agger ensured we pulled it back level. A game where we made Chelsea look ordinary eventually went to penalties and well, from there it was always going to be a dead cert who would go through Wink

Liverpool 5 -0 Real Madrid. That 4-0 was the best performance I have seen and luckily I recorded it!

I don't remember us playing Auxerre in the Champions League since Rafa has been in charge? Undecided

If you mean Marseille though, can't believe I forgot that one Shocked

See, this is where the doubters realise just how good times have been under Rafa!

Lucky b***ard!

I still watch it. The way Mascherano would bring it out to Alonso and he spread it to anywhere with ease and every man in Red just completely run through the Madrid midfield. It was the Rafa system in full flow.

Alonso did spread it indeed.

Well the thread title said Great Nights of Europe and even though there might of only been around 25,000 in Anfield that night we made some noise and was the first time we had overcome a 2-0 deficit.

2-1 against Juventus in 05. That was some f**king night that and our two goals were both top, top, top quality.

Houllier's return against Roma was another fantastic night.

I can't choose so many great nights under rafa but Chelsea 2005 at Anfield still stands out Anfield was buzzing and the celebrations after we'd won were amazing our first champions league final for 20 years.

I would say Istanbul 2005, Semis against Chelsea in 2005 and 2007 and last season's 4-0 thrashing of Madrid to be my picks.
