2006/07 - The best team in Europe was...

Espanyol.

We all know about UEFA's coefficients which make the seedings and such like for the tournaments.  They take scores over the last five years to give a total score.

Liverpool are currently 3rd in Europe behind AC Milan and Barcelona based on the last five years - ie. according to the number of victories, progress in tournaments we are the 3rd best.  I think Chelsea and United we're joint 7th on the list.

But according to the rankings Espanyol were the best this season.  They must have had a really good record in the UEFA Cup I assume - didn't follow that tournament too much.

Interestingly Liverpool actually got a better UEFA score than AC Milan this season even though they 'nicked' the final.

The scorings for 2006/07 were.

1. Espanyol   35.27

3. Liverpool  29.486
4. Chelsea 28.486
5. AC Milan 27.936

Knew that much. Just saying they must have won pretty much every other game to get such a good score.

Surely Milan should have been first you would have thought.

I'm always a bit dubious about these stat driven tables i mean if you look down the list you will find at number 100 Everton, now I'm not being funny (OK i'am) but how can a team who are in and out of Europe quicker than easy jet appear in a list of elite European teams?

actually the team is judge on what? any idea? performance?
