Goodnight Saigon lyrics
"Sexuality, your rules do not apply to me" (Sexuality)"This government had an idea and parliament made it law. Seems like it's illegal to fight for the union anymore" (Which Side Are You On?)Both by Billy Bragg.
Lyrics that mean far too much to me personally. I listened to this (or rather the NIN cover) on the drive away from my ex wife's house where I had to leave my kids behind. I'm never sure whether they helped me get through or almost tore me apart. For a while it was touch and go whether I would still be here today and even now, I can't listen to either version or even read the lyrics without a lump in my throat. It's a brilliant song anyway but a very powerful emotional anchor for me.'Hurt' - Johnny Cash :I hurt myself todayto see if I still feelI focus on the painthe only thing that's realthe needle tears a holethe old familiar stingtry to kill it all awaybut I remember everythingwhat have I become?my sweetest friendeveryone I knowgoes away in the endand you could have it allmy empire of dirtI will let you downI will make you hurtI wear this crown of thornsupon my liar's chairfull of broken thoughtsI cannot repairbeneath the stains of timethe feelings disappearyou are someone elseI am still right herewhat have I become?my sweetest friendeveryone I knowgoes away in the endand you could have it allmy empire of dirtI will let you downI will make you hurtif I could start againa million miles awayI would keep myselfI would find a way.
Sorry to repeat myself but I can actually add the video now so anyone who doesn't know the song will know what I mean.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clq01TXQR0s
Just so you know the Johnny Cash version is the cover mate. The song was written by Trent Reznor, not Johnny Cash. But Johnny's voice took this song to a whole new level and Trent has even been quoted as saying he prefers Johnny singing it.
I didn't know that. I love the NIN version and have seen it performed live but the bit that niggles me is the lyric 'crown of sh*t' rather than 'crown of thorns'. Ruins it a bit.
Do you know that Cash covered Soundgarden's Rusty Cage too. He's covered some quality music.
Yeah, that one I did know but not until a couple of years ago. I was listening to a Johnny Cash album (Unchained?) without track listings and thought, 'hang on, this sounds familiar'
