LIVERPOOL want to bolster their youth ranks with a deal for Sporting Lisbon teenager Joao Teixeira.
Teixeira, who turns 19 this month, caught the eye when scoring for the Portuguese side against Liverpool in the NextGen Series.

Midfielder Teixeira comes from the famed Sporting academy that produced Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani.

Liverpool endured a difficult start to life in the NextGen Series as they went down to a 3-0 defeat against Sporting Lisbon at Anfield on Wednesday night.


Rodolfo Borrell's youngsters faced one of the finest youth sides in Europe and found themselves trailing to two magnificent first-half goals from Joao Teixeira and Alberto Coelho.

The Reds stepped up a level following the interval but could not mount a fightback despite hitting the post through substitute Krisztian Adorjan.

Farley Rosa then sealed the triumph with a magnificent third four minutes from time.

The result means Liverpool are pointless following their first match in Group Two and will now look to bounce back in time for their Barclays Premier Reserve League opener against Norwich City next week.

Ahead of the contest Borrell had warned of the threat the Portuguese outfit would pose and the size of the task was perhaps magnified by the Spaniard's team selection with both Jonjo Shelvey and Jack Robinson amongst the starting XI.

Anyway, don't know much of this player, but if he's good, hope he comes. 

I would love to see us make this signing!!  He was immense in both legs against us in the NexGen games!!  He was calm and confident on the ball and played with a maturity that belies his young age.  This kid is one for the future! 

Off topic, but I'd also like to see us make a move for young Ola John this window.  If we move now, we can get him for cheap.  I think a transfer with a loan back to Twente for the rest of the season would suit all parties as he could continue to get regular playing time.  Doubtful though as we have not been linked with the lad

He looks a tricky little lad another 1 for the future,We should try snap hi up now before someone else grabs him.Would like to see one of these young lads break into the first team.

As most of us were thinking and some have even said it, we should just buy their whole youth team. So much quality and fantastic potential in that side.

Liverpool have agreed a deal with Sporting Lisbon, close to £1m, to sign one of the most talented young players from the academy that has developed the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Figo and Nani.

João Carlos, 19, is moving to Anfield after coming to the attention of the Liverpool manager, Kenny Dalglish, during a scoring performance in the NextGen series of youth-team matches earlier this season.

The teenager has been talked about in Portugal as being similar to a young Deco but Sporting have financial issues and have decided to accept Liverpool's offer in keeping with their usual policy of nurturing young players and then selling them for profit.

Carlos has trained with Sporting's first-team this season, but has not made his senior debut.

I didn't see it but Joao Teixeira was supposed to have been brilliant. There's another thread on here about us being interested. I'm assuming someone saw LFC representatives over there and assumed we were going for Teixeira when it was actually Carlos.

I don't know, mate, like I said I didn't see it so don't know anything about him. I re-read that article in case I'd missed it but it doesn't say.
That would make sense! haha

Edited the name, it is Teixeira.

One for the future right there, wonder if Kenny will be tempted to throw him straight into the squad or whether he'e'll spend a year or two in the reserves.

I'd think the latter.
