He seemed to do just fine with it last season.

But yet the same questions were still being raised...

The way Rodgers gushes over Gerrard I find slightly concering. He seems to treat him like his best mate rather than a team player. Not surprised at the rumours of rumblings in the dressing room.
If we can see Rodgers has favourites so can the rest of the squad.
He needs to start acting like a LFC Manager working towards the best outcomes for the club rather than a star struck fan.

it was nice of him to remind Stevie he is no longer 22 I am sure he appreciated that.

Yep, was a bit cringeworthy to be honest, as was Lambert's defence.

"When Stevie plays sh*te we all need to play better." - Yeah cheers for that Ricky...

Brendan's seemed to hinge on Stevie being "the best footballer he's worked with in terms of football mentality." How very ambiguous that statement is, what is football mentality? Very strange choice of defence there by both of them, not sure either really helped Stevie to be honest.

So lets hope Brendan looks good into that(stevie's role I mean , as he said in the above interview)
hoping he can achknowlegde (as most do) that stevie is NO defensive midfielder , and if he plays him , it will be an advanced position, with Lucas/allen /Can or hendo behind him
and stevie and ALL the rest esp. the back 4 have to be focused because Ludo players are fast and they can hurt you in counter
a good result is a MUST if we want to go to the KO stage

If he said SG is the best footballer he worked with, even SG himself would know he is lying(Suarez).

In terms of football mentality but even then, I agree with you. Luis gave his all for this club, regardless of what was going on (i.e. Arsenal transfer saga).

Maybe he should have just said Gerrard is the best landlord I have ever had.

Don't think Stevie needs help. He's a legend, end of. The silly part is that he would "need" defending from the scores of fans ready to toss him out with the trash.

How long should his "legend.end of." status keep him in the team in your opinion?

His play should keep him in or out of the team.

My point is that there doesn't need to be any of this defending by Rickie or Brendan...Stevie's a big boy, he can handle the criticism.

Well perhaps but it would seem a bit odd if the manager WASN'T defending him  - and no doubt it would quickly become another stick with which to beat him. Either way he can't win.

      Bang on.

You could put your mortgage on it that those who pick up on Rodgers' syntax, pitch, tone and tenor would construct their own semantic theory about the sound of silence.

Having Gerrard in the side is a waste of a player - its like playing with 10 men as he cannot run, cannot press and he cannot retain possession.

He is the antithesis to what Rodgers originally wanted at Liverpool, yet he still plays?

The sooner we face up to the cold brutal facts that he isn't good enough anymore, the sooner we can progress.

Not being the specific culprit which is the comment you respond to, is the same as being only an ingredient of a more widespread issue.
Whichever way it tumbles exaggerated claims about one player are detrimental to the team.

Great stuff - he's not part of the problem but I'm looking into moving him...

Deflection or delusion, I hope the former.

The only way Stevie can prolong his playing time 'successfully' with us is to have a 'demolisher' like Masch by his side. Look at the 08-09 side. Alonso was the 'vertical' player in the midfield and Masch was the 'Horizontal' one, with Stevie ahead of them supplying those through balls to Torres. We need an out and out DM to partner Stevie and shield the defence, with Coutinho ahead of them. Lucas-Stevie duo for some reason doesnt work out.

But quite simply, Gerrard cannot play on either tip of the diamond or at the base of a 4-3-3 anymore. He doesnt have the legs for the former and becomes a liability in the latter. If we are ever playing a 4-3-3 again, Can has to be in center of that midfield, with his physique and legs. Hope he learns the positional awareness to play in that role effectively

PR machine still working it's magic on the masses I see...

      "it's Stevie's fault" = smoke

      "it's brendan's fault" = mirrors...

[Just like Comolli & Kenny - smoke n mirrors.]

Thing is: when both are moved on, the club will be no better off: who will we blame then?

New manager. New Captain. Same dogma, same diktat... Same end result.
