Southampton 3-2 Liverpool: In game and post match debate
      Mar 20, 2016 12:30:37 pm

      https://twitter.com/LFC/status/711515476455591936

      Cold at St Mary's

Starting XI: Mignolet, Flanagan, Lovren, Sakho, Clyne, Can, Allen, Lallana, Coutinho, Origi, Sturridge

Subs: Ward, Toure, Benteke, Henderson, Skrtel, Smith, Ojo

Jon Flanagan will be the 9th different captain for Liverpool this season. Jon’s brilliant week continues as he captains Lfc after signing a new deal with the club. No Jordan Henderson in starting line-up today as he recovers from illness; missed training on Friday.

Jon Flanagan captains Liverpool for the first time today at Southampton as Divock Origi and Joe Allen return to the starting line-up on the south coast.

Jürgen Klopp makes three changes to the side that drew 1-1 with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Thursday, with James Milner suspended, Jordan Henderson rested, and Roberto Firmino absent due to a hamstring injury.

That means a recall for Flanagan, who was ineligible for the Europa League trip to Manchester, while Allen is also handed an opportunity to start in the captain's stead.

Origi, meanwhile, features from the off at a ground where he scored a memorable hat-trick earlier this season as the Reds ran out 6-1 winners in the League Cup.

There is also a place in the squad for Martin Skrtel, as he takes the next step in his return from a hamstring injury.

Would have rested Hendo anyway, hopefully Allen will do well.

Would like to have a look at Sturridge and Origi as a partnership, wonder if thats how they'll set up.

Flanno captain, holy moly, that's a bit of a statement to be honest.

Glad to see it's Origi chosen up front, think we'll have a real pace threat now with both Studge and him hopefully keeping the moving up. Bobby is a big loss though and both Studge/Origi need to pick up the slack of pressing while off the ball, none of the lazy sh*t that Studge can be prone to. Time for him to show his quality and for Origi to grab this chance with both hands!

Big game, as all of them seem to be now, win and we just keep turning that pressure up.

      Come on lads!!!!

Looks like a 4-4-2 formation?  Benteke may as well pack his bags ready for the summer move now. Delighted that Flanno got the armband a good reward for his fightback from injury along with the new contract. Good to see Skrtel back in contention, but Ibe seems to have completely disappeared off the scene.

Fed's going to lose his sh*t with Flanagan as captain :D

I like the look of the team. Allen gets some game time, as does Flanagan and Ojo's recent dominating performances in the under-21's gets him a spot on the bench. Top stuff.

Good on Flanno but it does signal a tension between Klopp and Sturridge. Sturridge not being captain is very strange.

Nice gesture that from Jürgen, giving Flanno Captaincy for this match. Massive week for the lad. Also interested to see the Origi/Sturridge partnership. Looking forward to this :D

      What the?

Sturridge isn't captain material. End of. Sahko would have to be up the pecking order before Studge.

But I'm glad Klopp has given Flanno the armband - great choice that!

What? Flanno is captain because he's signed a new 3-year deal.

Can we have a dislike function?

Why is it strange ? i wouldn't class Sturridge as the skipper type Flanno is more aggrerssive and has the shout .

If shown that side, i'd have guessed Lovren would have the armband but Flanno isn't a surprise at all. He'll be buzzing.

Sturridge is definitely not captain material.

      Well in Flanno!

Another sign Benteke will be moved on in the summer I think, no Firmino in attack and Origi again chosen ahead of him
