Liverpool complete deal to sign Ragnar Klavan

Liverpool Football Club have completed the signing of Ragnar Klavan from FC Augsburg on a long-term contract.

The centre-back, who made in excess of 120 appearances in the Bundesliga and has over a century of caps for Estonia, has put pen to paper on a deal with the Reds after successfully passing a medical and agreeing personal terms at Melwood.

Upon finalising the transfer, Klavan told Liverpoolfc.com: “I’m really honoured to be part of this amazing club, this amazing team.

“It’s hard to put it into words, because it’s been a dream of mine for 22 years to come to the Premier League and be a part of this amazing club, Liverpool.

“The Premier League is the most attractive league in the world and you always have amazing players here. This is the home of football.”

Klavan becomes the fifth new face added to Jürgen Klopp’s squad this summer so far following Loris Karius, Joel Matip, Sadio Mane and Marko Grujic.

The 30-year-old featured in both legs of the Europa League last-32 tie for Augsburg against Liverpool back in February.

Join LFCTV GO now to watch Klavan's first LFC interview in full and see the defender join his new teammates in action during pre-season.

Welcome home Klavan. Stay focused and do exactly how you used to play. Do not try to overcomplicate!

Since Klopp wanted him and this was not a deadline transfer, that means that he was one of his priority players.

This means the end for either Wisdom or Ilori OR both.

Welcome aboard Ragnar, sounds like a good Viking name, he'll be ready for battle then.
Happy about any new players even if I haven't heard of them because Jürgen and his staff will have picked them/him out.

Prediction time:  Sakho suffers another injury setback and Ragnar replaces "The Future Captain" in the starting 11 before the end of September.

Ragnar Klavan: Why Anfield is the place to be

      David Lynch
      @LynchMDavid

Ragnar Klavan has revealed how his first taste of Anfield last season ensured he wanted to make Liverpool his new home this summer - and LFCTV GO subscribers can watch our exclusive interview with the new signing on demand now.

The Estonian completed a switch to the Reds from Augsburg on Wednesday, less than six months on from the two clubs meeting on Merseyside in the second leg of a Europa League Round of 32 tie.

Klavan and his colleagues could not halt the progress of Jürgen Klopp's team on that occasion, as James Milner's penalty proved the difference on the night and on aggregate.

But the defender did take one positive from the evening - the famous Anfield atmosphere which he will now get to sample on a more regular basis.

When asked how playing in front of the Kop compares to running out at other stadiums, Klavan said: "I think it’s more the feeling you get when you walk on the pitch.

"It’s a compact stadium, but there’s so much history in there, this is what excites me more.

"These days a lot of teams have really new stadiums which look good and everything is clean; but Anfield, it’s not the newest, but it’s the place to be."

So the question becomes....did he scare Sakho out of that number or ask him nicely? ;D

Cause  if he can scare Sakho enough to give up his number he might just be worth having

My uncle is called Ragnar, never knew Estonians were also called that name, but then the Baltic countries are more or less Scandi anyway.

Sounds like the lad has some impressive stats so hopefully we might be slowly moving towards a half decent defence, won't that be nice to have again.

Anyway welcome aboard Ragnar, wear the shirt with pride and do yourself and your country proud.

Don't even remember him playing in the Augsburg game, so can't go judging just yet until he plays in a red shirt, good luck to him anyway.

The lovely Hayley McQueen just came on SSN and full of enthusiasm announced Breaking News!

Last thing I'd describe that McQueen is as lovely.
