A lot of forum regulars will know of RED1028 and his enthusiasm for running and taking part in various running events around England. Well now he is putting all that enthusiasm and passion into a very worthy cause.

He is running the Cork City Marathon on the 2nd of June. And it's all in the aid of our forum charity, Zoe's Place Baby Hospice.

I hope everyone will join in with wishing Andy - RED1028 the very best of luck for this marathon and sponsor him what anyone can afford.

Andy, good luck mate. You're a genuine top bloke and I admire you for what you're doing. You'll Never Walk Alone.

All the information you need to sponser Andy is here:

I have entered the
Cork City Marathon
on 2nd June 2008!

I aim to raise as much money as possible for our charity - Zoe's Place Baby Hospice.
I have set up a fund raising page if anyone would like to make a donation they can do so by clicking on this link:

http://www.justgiving.com/red1028-andy

Liverpool's Zoe's Place website can be found on this link:
http://www.zoesplaceliverpool.org/the-hospice/

The Venice marathon, last year on my birthday, was about celebrating a special event, on a special day, in a special place. This, my 2nd marathon, will be about a special charity and some very special children and their families. Not having children myself I cannot begin to imagine what pain, anguish or unhappiness these families have to endure and it takes very brave, courageous and dedicated people to both parent and nurse the children involved. Life is such a precious commodity and those of us who are able should do what we can to show our support for these special people.

Zoe in Greek means Gift Of Life.

Please help us to provide the gift of life.

Zoe's Place Baby Hospice in Liverpool was the first of its kind in the country which takes care of babies with multiple special needs.

All the babies that visit Zoe's Place Baby Hospice are all extra special. We provide care, help and support to them and their families.

Zoe in Greek means "Gift Of Life" which we believe is an appropiate name for non-denominational and multi-cultural hospice, as all our babies come to Zoe's Place to live life to the full.

At Zoe's Place Baby Hospice in Liverpool, we need to raise funds so our team of qualified registered sick children's nurses and care assistants can provide care and stimulation so that our babies can live life to the full. All our babies have life-limiting or lie threatening conditions. We would not be able to continue at Zoes Place Baby Hospice if it were not for the tireless help and support that we receive from the public in our quest for fund raising.

At Zoe's Place , Liverpool we don't have a set admission criteria, so if your baby has special needs, then we can help and support you. We welcome babies and their families from all over the UK.

If you would like anymore information about Zoe's Place Baby Hospice in Liverpool, then please call us and one of our staff will be happy to talk to you. We can either send you a video or you and your family are welcome to come and visit us.

**************

Zöe’s Place is the only Baby Hospice in the UK. We provide 24 hour one-to-one respite and palliative nursing care for infants aged 0-5 with life threatening or life limiting conditions. The Hospice accommodates up to 6 infants at any one time, although we currently have 45 babies on our books in Liverpool.

The Hospice accommodation comprises of:

    * a main day area with 2 bedrooms,
    * a light sensory room,
    * hydrotherapy pool,
    * chapel,
    * messy play area.

The Hospice building also contains a self contained flat in which parents may stay.The Hospice is soon to undergo major refurbishments, increasing the surface area of the Hospice by 100%, providing much needed space in which the babies may play and relax.

Zoe’s Place employs a specialist Play Leader who works in tandem with our Physiotherapist to ensure that every aspect of the child’s development is catered for.

The respite care provided at Zoe’s Place is open to babies from all over the country and has proved invaluable to so many of our families’ over the 13 years of our existence. We do not receive any central government or NHS funding. Our running costs of £700,000 per annum must be raised purely through public donations.

Here's to raising lots of money for a very worthy cause.  Wink

3,500 take part in Liverpool half marathon
Mar 3 2008 by Richard Down, Liverpool Daily Post

It’s a hard day’s night for city runners

SOME 3,500 runners swept through Liverpool yesterday in a sea of colourful outfits.

Despite early confusion which saw the first swathe of half marathon participants being directed along a different street to that lined by spectators, the run was deemed a great success.

Beatles music warmed up both the crowd and the runners who limbered up in wintry sun.

The theme continued at every mile post, each of which was named after a Fab Four song. The first was at Sefton Park with Come Together and the last was Don’t Let me Down. Each of the markers on the 13.1 mile run was provided by an entrant.

Half marathon runners made their way along Princes Avenue, Duke Street, Park Lane, Upper Parliament Street and Ullet Road, following the first 10 miles of last year’s route. The last three miles followed a revised route.

For the second year running, Blackburn Harrier Ben Fish was first to cross the line, while the first woman was Jenny Blizard.

Competitors came from as far as New York for the 15th Liverpool Half Marathon sponsored by Mizuno and Highland Sp
 In a week dominated by Prince Harry’s tour of Afghanistan, 40 soldiers from the Royal Artillery in Merseyside used the run to pay their respects to a colleague killed in action in the former Soviet republic last year.

Warrant officer Mick Smith, 39, from Hunts Cross, a member of 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery, died on March 8 last year from injuries sustained when a grenade was fired at the UK base in Sangin, Helmand Province.

Almost exactly 12 months after his death, the soldiers, who all serve with 103 Regiment Royal Artillery (Volunteers), which has its HQ in St Helens and a battery in Aigburth, took part in the race.

Race director Alan Rothwell, of Run Liverpool, was expecting a 5,000 strong field.

Before the race he said: “The attraction of the city has always been there, but the indications as far as the 2008 half marathon goes suggests there’s likely to be a dramatic increase in participation from runners across the country.”

Andy ( RED1028 ) was 1 of these runners, he is warming up for the big run in Cork in aid of Zoe,s.

You can help him, by donating a few quid on the above link.

I'm sure Andy will send us a full report, about the Liverpool run soon.

Well done mate.

RED1028. I'm sure a lot of us are aware of him. But I'm finding it hard to believe that there's only a small few who have backed him so far in this cause.

Seriously.

I've been a bit too busy lately to post some my latest exploits in my running diary and before I can say Roadrunner I'm off again! This time I'm going to Guernsey to participate in an Easter Running Festival - 4 races in 4 days. I will only be competing in the 10K on Good Friday and the Half Marathon on Easter Monday, a total of 19 miles. The 2 races I decided to opt out of are the 4.75 mile Cross Country and the 5 mile Team relay on the Saturday and Sunday respectively. I will be on a 6 day break from work, which I need after 3 months of stock taking!

I am carrying a slight injury to my left calf muscle as a result of doing 2 fast 3 mile training runs on Saturday and Sunday just gone. Saturday's time was 23:03 and Sunday's time was a slower 23:31 but I did actually run my fastest ever mile in a time of 6:57mins Shocked f_run followed by my combined fastest 2 mile run to date of 15:03 Shocked f_run f_run. I had pushed hard and the injury was actually from the night before so it culminated in a bad 2nd mile on day 2! Roll Eyes

1 - 7:33                                                                 1 - 6:57
 2 - 7:56                                                                 2 - 8:10
       3 - 7:32                                                                 3 - 8:07
   Total Time : 23:01                                               Total Time : 23:31

I hope my injury repairs itself pretty soon (before Friday!) because I aim to participate in both races and it is the main reason for my trip, I also have another race on the 30th March and a  Half Marathon to stay in shape for on the 6th April, fingers crossed! f_run f_run f_run
