Yanks out, Arabs in!

Quote from: Sky Sports
New signing Andrea Dossena has expressed his joy at signing for Liverpool. He’s excited to be the first Italian to play for the Reds. Dossena has completed his medical on Wednesday and the signing will be officially be announced very shortly.

His agent Federico Pastorello said to Sky Sports, “I understand he is the first Italian international to play for Liverpool - a great opportunity for him and he is really happy,”

“He had his medical on Wednesday and we are just awaiting the formalities of that but we would think everything will be signed very shortly,” he continued.

“An agreement between the clubs was hard, but we all found it and everything is now ready.”

“That was an important aspect of his decision and he cannot wait to get started.”

Another exciting prospect for the back is this the guy we have been looking for to perfect the LB position?

Quote from: lfc.tv
Left-back Andrea Dossena signed from Serie A side Udinese in July 2008.

The Italian was a direct replacement for the outgoing John Arne Riise.

I don't know about perfection, but he must have some qualities for Rafa to pay £7 million for him. He'll become our new record signing for a defender if the fee is confirmed, so I don't think we'll be disappointed. Fingers crossed the medical results come in very soon and we can say welcome to our second signing of the summer! Grin

Looks like it will be completed today judging by the fact his wedding is over this weekend and both rafa and dossena wanted it sorted before then.

Cant wait to see it confirmed officialy.

Dossena is expected to finalise his transfer in the next 48 hours before being unveiled by The Reds next week in a deal believed to be worth around £7million.

No press conference mate, it's far too early for that. He'll be revealed on the site as signed, in other words he'll sign a pre contract... remember you can't join your new club until July the 1st.

This signals the end of Riise and possibly Aurelio as I believe Insua will be the automatic back up.

I don't know much about him so I'll save judgement until I've seen him play a few games. Can anybody fill me in on the type of left back he is...is he a Evra/Clichy/Cole type in he loves bombinb forward or is he a Jamie Carragher left back where he doesn't cross the half way line?

Also with the Euro's starting, is he Italy's number one left back?

I think Rafa likes Aurelio too much, don't think he'll sell him. Riise is definately gone though.

And no, he isn't even in the squad I don't think, but that's because Italy have a surplus of top full backs, with Chiellini, Zambrotta, Panucci and Grosso.

I haven't seen him playing many times, but if it's true that he was the best left back in the Italian league, then he deserved to be in the Italian squad much more than Grosso, for example. Grosso is only there cause of what he has done in the World Cup, 2 years ago. Since this competition he never been the same, Dossena is said to be in much better form than him.

Grosso got the number 3 in the Euro, so he might be a starter, which is unfair if you consider only the recent form (and dont count the experience and past form for the national team). Maybe if Dossena does well for us, then he will have more chances.

he was over here for his medical but no transfers can be revealed until the window opens on the 1st of July. Even Degen, he's signed and sealed but not delivered because of the laws.

The question is: Does these kind of signings bring us forward and closer to ManUre or Chelski? ManU is in talks with Alves & Co., that's another caliber of players ... sadly it doesn't look good for Liverpool to win its 19th title.

We need a quality attacking full back especially if we play Babbel on the left as he cuts in most of the time and we need width from the left.

REDS CLOSING ON DOSSENA DEAL
Jimmy Rice 26 June 2008
Liverpool Football Club expect to complete the signing of left-back Andrea Dossena next week, chief executive Rick Parry has confirmed.
A deal to bring the 26-year-old Udinese defender to Anfield is almost complete and is likely to be confirmed on the club's official website shortly.

Parry said: "We are now ready to confirm the signing of Dossena. The deal should go through next week after finalising the paperwork."

The full-back, who has one international cap to his name, will become the second new addition to Rafa Benitez's squad following the free transfer of Swiss defender Philipp Degen.

Dossena is seen as an ideal replacement for John Arne Riise, who departed for Serie A side Roma last week.

Parry continued: "John was an incredibly enthusiastic defender who was always a great pro.

"He worked hard and never gave us a minute's trouble. The fans will remember that powerful shot of his that brought them to their feet on many occasions.

"We had a good chat about his time here and he wants to thank the fans for the support he was given down the years. He secured Champions League and FA Cup success at Anfield and also helped us win the Worthington Cup and two European Super Cups."
