http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N160628080723-1032.htmJimmy Rice 23 July 2008
Liverpool have today confirmed the capture of Spanish right-back Emmanuel Mendy on a three-year deal. The 18-year-old arrives on a free from Murcia Deportivo and will compete for a place in Gary Ablett's reserves. Petit but powerful, Mendy has also been known to play at left-back.
Looks like more movement within the reserve team than the first team, another spanish player too.

will be good to see the reserves continue the good work . We do need to start getting more players for the first team especially after the performance last night.

He's only 18, so he's not going to be playing for first team straight away. And its called buying for the future.

Could indicate Darby getting more of a chance with the first team, so that's good news in itself.

With Finnan, Degen and Arbeloa at right back it seems very difficult. Even if one of them goes. Like Insua at left back with Aurelio and Dossena. Maybe it's a sign Darby is going away on loan?

Good point. That's the flipside and may well be more realistic. But if Finnan was to leave and Degan possibly being used in a more forward role, we could maybe see Darby getting a few cup games. One way or the other, it looks like we've signed Mendy for the right back position in the reserves. So it will be interesting to see where Darbys position is with the reds this season.

^^^^^ and when the young defenders are ready they will be around aggers age and agger will be older meaning he would be able to take them under his wing as Carra and Sami have done

We seem to be building the youth/reserve team more than we building the 1st team.If all these youngsters stay at liverpool for 5years or so and get all the proper experience and training,I think we will have a strong team in generations to come. Now Rafa should concentrate on 1st team signings.
