YANKS OUT!!

« on: August 08, 2008, 03:26:09 PM »

Three of Rafa Benitez's young pretenders have been given first-team squad numbers for 2008-09.
Damien Plessis, Krisztian Nemeth and Martin Kelly have all been allocated numbers for the first time.

Central midfielder Plessis, who borrowed the number 47 for his debut at the Emirates last term, will wear 28 on a permanent basis.

Nemeth, who top-scored for Gary Ablett's title-winning reserves in 2007-08, has been handed the number 29.

Defender Kelly will have 34 on his back should he make his first-team debut in the forthcoming campaign.

Meanwhile, three youngsters have swapped shirts: Emiliano Insua has moved from 48 to 22; Jay Spearing from 34 to 26; and Nabil El Zhar from 42 to 31.

Looks like we'll be seeing more of Plessis, Nemeth and Kelly in our Premiership matches. Good news!!

I seen Plessis enough times but to me he looks like another Sissoko but maybe not as good. Nemeth is good from what I've seen and Kelly I don't know about.

I would give Pacheco a squad number, he deserves it!

I think Plessis looks better. He's a better tackler, times it better and doesnt give away so many fouls. His distribution is better which is probably the most important factor, the only thing I think sissoko has to his advantage is his stamina he uses to break up play and his age.

Anyway this is good news, now I can get nemeth on one of my kits with his proper number

No disrespect ra ra rafa but thats a bad judgement. Hes an excellent tackler can pass a lot better and wiser then Momo and if you watch him play he looks slow on the ball but its because he knows what hes doing next he makes look as tho he has loads of time on the ball. Only good players do that. He is going to be awesome

Nobody has seen Plessis enough yet for the first team, except Rafa himself or by his back up staff, so that's a poor judgement mate. He has qualities that the back up staff and Rafa have seen, so I think the ideal and correct judgement will be made by those who know the player himself - not by those who only see the player by TV or by the odd experience.
Yes I expect great things from him (and others), but lets give him our time and support first !!

Nemeth is a fantastic prospect - we all know that. BUT he is someone that will have to be integrated slowly.
We expect such high hopes of him, and with Torres excelling to the standards he has, and with the purchase of Keane, I'm afraid that Nemeth will have to continue his development with the reserves until he is not knocking, but banging on the door of the first team - and that is something we require badly - players so passionate that they cannot be ignored. But for me - slowly bring him into the fray, and not put too much pressure on his young shoulders.

The future is bright - we all know that.
But Rafa has been accused of too much rotation before.
Lets trust in Rafa, he knows the players at his disposal, he knows what each player can do and deliver.

Only when Rafa decides when a player is ready is when we can judge.

Good to see these youngsters gettin squad numbers. Obviously means these lads will be in and around the first team a bit more. Bein on the bench on a few occassions and possibly even gettin the odd run out.

Out of the three, I'm happiest to see Nemeth in there. I saw him on plenty of occasions last year and the lad will score at any level.

Insua seems to have the most "important" number of all the players which leads me to beleive we'll be seeing alot more of him

I noticed that too, good thing to know. IMO, Insua is probably the best reserve young player at LFC at the moment and I think he's ready for first team. But with Dossena's signing I guess he pretty much have to battle it out, together with Aurelio. Great to see though, that Rafa's young signings are starting to bear fruit.

If Aurelio does his usual of being injured for half the season he could well get his chance at some point though. I think out of all the reserves he has to be the closest to the first team right now, Plessis looks likely to get a game ahead of him right now due to our lack of central midfield options but I'd say Insua is the most likely to be fighting for a place when we have all our players back.

"Clearly we have problems on the left," he said. "We have sold Riise and Kewell and Fabio Aurelio is injured. Leto doesn't have a work permit and Babel is at the Olympic Games, so I think we can improve in this area." said rafa in the article http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N160840080808-2259.htm  therefore insua have more chance.

Insua did play at left wing in the pre-season friendlies with Dossena behind him, but I prefer him on the defensive side of the left flank. The lad's marking is impressive, and I remembered in one of our final league matches last season he effectively kept Vassell quiet in the Man City match.

I'm very curious to find out who this "improvement on the left" player Rafa has his sights on.
