Liverpool V Manchester United Match Thread
      Sep 13, 2008 12:05:53 pm

Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres have been named on the Liverpool bench for the lunchtime clash with Manchester United. Listen to the game live online at 12.45pm BST.
Albert Riera will make his debut on the wing, while Dirk Kuyt and Robbie Keane start up front.

The Reds XI in full is:

Reina, Arbeloa, Aurelio, Carragher, Skrtel, Alonso, Mascherano, Riera, Benayoun, Keane, Kuyt.

Subs: Cavalieri, Dossena, Hyypia, Ngog, Torres, Gerrard, Babel.

      ************************************************************************************************

Not surprised to see Stevie and Nando on the bench, Rafa obviously intends bringing them on at some stage in the second half, depending on how things are going.

Kuyt up front with Keane is a bit of a surprise, I'd of thought he would have had Babel up front, still this is Rafa so we should expect the unexpected  ???

Come on lads, we need you all   to up your game today and show these Mancs how to play.

      My forecast 1-0 to Liverpool.

      Kuyt to score  :o

Not surprised to see Gerrard and Torres not starting.  Too big a risk.  Shouldn't really be on the bench either though.

That's what I've been saying! ;) It wouldn't really help us if one or the other scored but was then injured for 6 weeks!

No, I'm not either JD, they are supposedly fit though :-\ We may need them second half, hopefully the lads that Rafa has chosen will do the job without needing Stevie and Nando and keep them for the Marseille game.

Don't know about anyone else but it seems ages since we played our last league game against Villa, only two weeks but seems more like three  :o

Liverpool have gotten bit of a slating on Sky Sports :f_steam:

I'm surprised about Benayoun playing, his recent performances have been way below par and I really think Babel would have been alot more of a threat because they have no width on show so he could use his pace to exploit the gaps. Or I would have liked to have seen him up top with Keane seeing as Torres is on the bench (which is a massive blow) :(.
But hopefully we won't need Gerrard and Torres.

Riera, man of the match ;)

Hmm, team makes sense doesnt it...pfft.

If they are good enough to be on the bench, they're good enough to start otherwise keep them out of the squad all together.

What i dont get most though is Aurellio playing after how many months and his first game back is the biggest game for some. No sense at all, especially when Dossena was starting to look good.

      I give up.

I actually think Nando and Stevie on the bench could be a blessing in disguise. United would have based nearly all their plans around containing them 2 players but now they have to totally change their ideas at such short notice so that could be a good thing ;)

They dont have a winger on the pitch where as we have 2 natural wingers on o lets exploit these scumbags ;D

Anyone noticed who are sat together on the bench, typicall ::)

Glad to see them both on the bench to be honest. I'd rather win this game without them ;) Don't want to risk any injuries on a match as unimportant as this! ::)

In all seriousness though, I have high hopes for this game! :D It feels so good to have proper football back!

In me mates word's, who has just rang me from the Kop. "We're going to spoon these c*nts!' :D
