Liverpool To Rescue Javier Saviola From Real Madrid - Report

'The Little Rabbit' could be set for a surprise switch to the Reds, where he could replace a certain Irishman...

Reports in the English press declare that Liverpool will attempt to sign Javier Saviola on-loan from Real Madrid, most probably as a temporary replacement for Robbie Keane.

Word has it that the Anfield giants have agreed to sell Keane, who joined from Tottenham Hotspur in a big-money move only last year, back to the Lilywhites.

That would leave a noticeable hole in Rafael Benitez's forward line - or an empty space on the bench, at least - and the Spanish tactician supposedly wants Saviola to fill the void for the time being.

The Argentine striker has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs this winter, as he has become openly frustrated with his lack of first-team opportunities at the Bernabeu.

Portsmouth were favourites to sign the former Barcelona star, but instead opted for Greek international Theofanis Gekas, while Everton's reported interest has amounted to nothing as yet.

It is uncertain whether Saviola would fancy a move to Liverpool, as his need for playing time may outweigh the allure of joining another one of Europe's powerhouse clubs.

If RAFA was to sign Saviola a loan deal would be the way to go,then it will be seen if he can adapt to the E.P.L. without too much expense to the club. Then again RAFA will have to move quick as time is running out on this transfer window.

Skysports once said Ancellotti was the new Chelsea manager at the start of the season.

It's a bit of a fruitful bit of speculation.  ;)

A bid? I thought it'd be on loan.

Personally I think the loan option would be best, as he could turn out to be another "do nothing" striker.

The window has been extended to allow signings go through after the 1700GMT close. Both parties must agree in principle and prove due to weather they could not complete the move.

In saying that, we could well have a few more hours to find a replacement.

Personally think we need to take a chance on Saviola with a loan deal.

To get saviola isn't that difficult 'cos loans deals close one week after the transfer period ends.

I would loan him in a flash.... although I do like the idea of the young kids getting a shot that Keanes gone. Saviola would be better than the kids probably

From watching him at Barca he was quick, good on the head, good finisher most of the time, abit lightweight but he can lead a line. Good cover to have, until summer atleast.

Don't see it happening anymore myself but if negotiations started before 5pm the deal can technically still be completed.

      Saviola considering Real exit
Argentine attacker linked with move to the Magpies

By Francisco Acedo   Last updated: 12th May 2009

      Saviola: Linked with Magpies

Javier Saviola has set his sights on a summer move away from Real Madrid, according to the player's agent.

The Argentine forward was strongly linked with a transfer to Portsmouth in the winter transfer window but an agreement was not struck.

Saviola has continued to struggle for first-team football at the Spanish giants and his agent, Alfredo Cabrera Brizuela, has intimated that an exit is now likely.

It is reported that Newcastle United are interested in the 27-year-old with a deal dependent on whether they avoid relegation, but the club have yet to comment on the speculation.

Brizuela said: "Javier has a deal with Real Madrid until 2010 but he has decided to leave as he has not had many opportunities this season.

"It is true that some clubs have asked about Saviola, but we will attend a meeting at the beginning of June to resolve the issue.

"Saviola is still young and still offers much to the game. Clubs from England and Italy have contacted us."

I wouldn't mind him being back up for Torres.

Mind you he wants to leave for first team football so that pretty much rules him out.

I've just read on a spanish webpage something about liverpool willing to pay about 6m for Saviola!! what do you think? I always thought he was a great striker, not sure if he still IS a great one but I wouldnt mind him backing torres, cos if torres ever get injured ngog WONT fill the gap. dont say we got kuyt cos hes playing wonderfully on the right wing, and he has not the pace a lone striker needs, I think we all now that.

and if you ever say the name babel I'll say we should give pennant a try on the left wing cos silva is not coming anymore. (and that would be extremely painful to read, even to think about)

I'll edit and link as soon as I get the info in english, ill link it in spanish for those who like cryptography. ive seen something about calciomercato.com having the info too, or somthing like that, ill have to chek it up

well, ill get back to work lads

I think Saviola would be a decent back up striker myself.

Proven goalscorer at the highest level in Europe.  May not have had the best record at Madrid but he has been buffered around there.  His goalscoring record at Barca and Sevilla was exemplary.

I'd take him for that kind of fee.  Probably help Madrid pay for Ronaldo's left little toe.
