Sunday Express Sport can reveal that Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is ready to pay up to £20million for England right-back Johnson.

Manchester City manager Mark Hughes, meanwhile, is poised to move in with the same money for striker Crouch, despite his interest in Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz.

With the Arab millions at their disposal, there is nothing to stop City snapping up both of them. City believe Crouch has the greater ­experience and would be tempted by City’s plans and a huge pay packet.

Liverpool could have to sell highly-rated central defender Daniel Agger in the summer with the Dane becoming
increasingly frustrated at the lack of progress over a new contract.

His current deal has just 12 months to run and he admitted: “In my heart I hope I will still be at Liverpool next season but I don’t know. And I don’t know if my ­contract will be ­sorted before the end of the season.”

Yes, 20m is so much, maybe 3-5m. Due to the fact that Pompeys need money price is overstated. I suppose that he can play very well, he can score and he´ll be good right defender for us. We have only one right defender and we need a new player to this position.

Yes I agree 5-7 million would be about right, utter sh*te that Rafa would pay upto 20mill.

I think the daily express should be told that we are in a credit crunch and that isn't a reason to triple players valuations!

20 million...yeah let's have spend-all-you-can-on-one-average-player day! Glen Johnson is good player, but is he that good to be worth 20 million? if you minus the 0 and thrown in another 4 million, that's his value  6 million only!

Johnson is alright but is he as good as what we already have? If he's going to be bought as part of a larger rotation policy then fair enough but i wouldn't go over 4million for him.

We have larger priorities than strengthening our defence anyway.

20m? We had Arbeloa for 2m didn't we? So Arbeloa 10% of Johnson's abilities? , having a laugh, 20m is complete bollocks and Rafa will never pay this amount of money for a substandard player.

Johnson isn't substandard, and isn't worse than Arbeloa. But nor is he better. Arbeloa is a classic full back and not half bad at getting forward to cross/shoot. Arbeloa should be 1st choice all the time for right back, and Rafa should concentrate on strengthening the other side of the back four!

I think Johnson would be a good addition to our squad, he is young and has looked solid for England when he has played for them lately, he is better going forward then Arbeloa.
