Congrats to the lad I thought he did really well tonight. The only positive from the game. Lets see more of him in our first team.

      Yes and yes!

He impressed me in pre-season and he's impressing even more now.

Get shut of Degen and we've got two players who can comfortably take the RB role, even though Kelly is more of a centre-half.

Does anyone else think he's lost a bit of weight since pre-season by the way? He looks a bit more stealthy. He looked like a brick shithouse in the summer friendlies.

Impressed me in pre-season too.  Think it was the game in Norway where he nearly scored twice and defensively seems pretty sound as well.

Gotta say I wouldn't be too disappointed with a right side of Johnson on the wing and Kelly at right back.  Probably premature to say this but can't keep playing the same inane crap if we keep playing like we are, and especially with Kuyt being in as poor form as he is.

Hope his injury isn't too serious and I'm sure we'll see alot of him in the future.

That wouldn't trouble me at all. If Kuyt was out then that would be a brilliant option.

It's stop all them critics moaning about Johnson's 'defensive flaws' too. ;)

Thought he had a good game, did well getting up and down the flank and defended well too. Decent cross on him as well.

      Same here fella.

Best player on the pitch by far for us. An 18/19 year old out performing experienced first teamers on his 1st start.

      Well played lad, well played.

Spot on bud, was thinking the same thing.

Thought his first few minutes were a bit shaky but he really stepped it up after that. Hope the lads injury isn't too serious and he gets to start more first team games, very soon.

      Well done Martin.

We need players with passion and belief, Martin showed that last night.

Some of the more senior players could do well to follow his example. Well done Martin.

I hope we can keep hold of him and strengten our squad further for minimal outlay.

Besides Pepe in goal, Martin was the only other positive thing to come out of the match.

Did really well on his debut and even almost got on the scoresheet. Was my Man of the Match.

How bloody good did he play with the 2 crosses? One he sprinted past and and delivered inch perfect with the right, and then a cut back and even better ball with the left. His defending was great, too. Loving his play more and more.

This lad has bags of potential. He looked really good getting down that wing and getting crosses as well. Looks like a real no nonsense tackler. Watched him in the ressies last season and he was always a stand out performer. He can also play at CB. Hopefully we'll get rid of Degen in January and he can make the step up as back up for Johnson.

Being thrust into a crucial Champions League game, first proper start in the Liverpool kit (if memory serves me right), he did really well.

Although inexperienced, he looked confident and know what he was doing all the time. Defensively sound and able going forward as well. Considering the atmosphere, it is a big step up from reserves football and lived up to the hype.

Although the result was not what he wanted, he would be really pleased for himself. I'm glad for him he started off his career here with a bang.

Degen is full of sh*t, so why don't we get him sold and just promote his guy as cover for Johnson and in the CB position as well.

Cracking game!  Man of the match, imo.

Here's to the future, if the rest of our youths get a chance and take it the way he did, we might have a much improved squad without spunking millions.

As a centre back he put his shirt on and grabbed his opportunity with both hands. He started quietly and built his confidence up throughout the game. Why oh why cant other kids come in and do that. I seem to remember a young Robbie Fowler getting a chance and beating it to death. If anything it is the kids letting Rafa down as when they get their chances they look far from the finished article.Well done Martyn Kelly you should be very proud of yourself.
