I love how they're writing Pep off as he's only ever gone to the best clubs, with the best squads and the most money.  Anyone would think Jose had gone to Championship level Clubs on the brink of bankruptcy and won everything available.

Of course he has the advantage of knowing the league but he's starting from such a low point, with so few players able to play his way I really don't understand this idea he'll turn it around straight away.

50% don't want him, 20% are indifferent which leave a quarter of the fan base in favour of having a proven giver-up as their manager.

      Happy days ahead.

Basically yes, it can certainly hinder your premiership chances. The only good thing about this comp now is as we both know you get a CL place if you win it. Unless we get to the quarter final stages I wouldn't be disappointed if we went out.

The latter stages of the Europa League are fantastic but the group stages are really the most ball crushingly boring nuisance in football. 6pm Thursday evening matches? F**k right off. That you have to wait till March/April to get excited about it is not cool. I'd revert back to the old structure - just a straight knockout tournament. F**k having to travel to the middle of Siberia or some other Russian wasteland in winter to scrimp through a dire 0-0 or 0-1 loss.

Correct Billy mate and the possible choice of Mourinho shows their desperation in trying to avoid another 20+ years in the footy wilderness! Most of their instant fans will have no memory of Matt Busby and the void created when he left, Ferguson's departure is so far looking like a similar prospect.

Appointing soft lad will be a step further into the wilderness for the mancs and their fans.

Well the stats don't agree with KK. They say he's the most successful premiership manager. I'm very confidant he will turn us around. Main thing is it adds to what is going to be a unbelievable season for the north west clubs.  :)

Replacing their last man with Mourinho from a "style" pov, is like replacing still water with sparkling water.

He will park the bus. He will close games down. When he's leading games, the opposition will have large amounts of possession. He will get touchline bans, he  may get more stadium bans, and he will affect your club's image.

Like LVG, his teams usually play functional football, so if it's 4 and 5 goal wins you demand, he's not the man to call for. You know what he's like, he's not going to change, so there's not much point complaining about his style of play when it doesn't work. That's what you wanted and that's what you'll get.

Jose Mourinho: Image rights negotiations hold up Manchester United deal

Negotiations over Jose Mourinho's image rights are delaying him becoming the new Manchester United manager.

Mourinho is expected to replace sacked Louis van Gaal, with talks ongoing between his agent Jorge Mendes and United officials.

But it has emerged that Chelsea still own the 'Jose Mourinho' name as a trademark - meaning United may need to pay a six-figure sum for the rights.

However, the issue will not scupper any deal, which is expected this week.

Discussions will now enter a third day, despite the deal to bring the 53-year-old former Chelsea boss to Old Trafford being largely complete. On Wednesday, Mourinho told waiting reporters at his home in London that he was going to Portugal.

Chelsea registered both the name Jose Mourinho and his signature as a European trademark in 2005, meaning they can use it to sell merchandise such as toiletries, technology, clothing and jewellery.

Sports lawyer Carol Couse told BBC Sport it was "really unusual" for an individual not to own the trademark to their own name.

"Chelsea could be earning revenue every time someone uses Mourinho's name. It could prevent United from exploiting his signature," said Couse, of law firm Mills & Reeve.

"One of the things United will be looking to acquire is not only Mourinho's image but also his name.

"If United had a brand of Mourinho clothing it would be in breach of the trademark Chelsea currently own."

      What are the possible solutions?

Mourinho cannot override the trademark, so the options are

      • United do not use Mourinho's name against the exhaustive list of items that Chelsea have registered
      • United pay Chelsea for a licence so they can use Mourinho's name on club merchandise
      • United ask Mourinho to buy the trademark back
      • United challenge trademark if they can prove it has not been used by Chelsea

"That would be pretty costly," said Couse, who estimated the fee for a licence as "hundreds of thousands of pounds".

"Look at the value of the deals that have been done for Mourinho to date. What would be the value of a Jose Mourinho watch?

"He has managed Inter and Real since then. They have either acquired the rights from Chelsea or managed the use of his name.

"If Chelsea didn't grant a licence, every time United used Jose Mourinho's name in a commercial capacity against those products, Chelsea could sue Manchester United. I would suspect United would rather just pay a licence fee."

There is also potential conflict between Mourinho's personal deals - such as his one with car manufacturer Jaguar - and United's shirt sponsor agreement with Chevrolet.

"I don't think that in itself would hold up any negotiation," Couse explained. "A lot of world-class players go to Manchester United with their own personal deals. Mourinho's deals will be in a personal capacity."

Couse said United cannot force Mourinho to drive a Chevrolet car, for example, or wear Chevrolet clothes outside of club capacity, but they could pay him an incentive to buy out the Jaguar deal early.

With respect Frizzby but last two managers not in Mourinho's league for me. Fergie obviously got it wrong with Moyes. As for Van Gaal. I just don't like his style of play like so many fans. I would say you were in similar position when Rogers was your manager. So many fans just didn't like his style of play. In a short space of time with the same team Klopp has got the fans/team bouncing again. I think same with apply with Mourinho

I agree with you regarding Moyes I don't thinks he's won as much as a raffle in his Life, but LVG apparently had a pedigree (of sorts!) and the majority of your fans thought it was the second coming, how wrong they were.

You appear to be using Premier League stats regarding maureen to prove a point when WE ALL KNOW football existed before SLY SPORTS the difference being money which won even LGV a trophy !

I don't think he'd make the top 10 managers list in UK football and further more don't think he'll win the Premier League at scumchester.

Like the other misguided souls Keith you assume that the new incumbent will achieve overnight success with a king's ransom provided by your owners.

In the cold light of day both of those assumptions involve so many variables and volatilities as to make it a very risky prediction.
You'd get unbelievable odds on any manager turning it round for you in the time scale expected by the dreamers amongst your number.

Klopp has done it at Liverpool within a few months. Would you of ever imagined getting to two cup finals if Rodgers was still in charge with the same team?? Liverpool have found a new zest with Klopp at the realm.

You know as I do the majority of your supporters want success yesterday, comparing LFC in any context is not viable.
You say about Klopp's achievement of getting us io two cup finals and it giving the club a new "zest", Van Gaal won your lot a trophy and he was sacked before the game kicked off.

Something is broken in the manc boardroom and until that is addressed your rivals/haters will look on at your predicament with great joy.
