I thought Lawrence was very good in American Hustle as well. Even better in Winters Bone though.

Watched The Conjuring last night and enjoyed it. One of the better recent horror films.

The Conjuring was genuinely freaky, takes a lot to send shivers down my spine.

      Likewise mate.

Shortly after it finished our smoke alarm started beeping. I'll admit it freaked me out a bit.

      Aye.

Rarely get to see horror films these days as my missus refuses to watch then as they scare the sh*t our of her. But I'll maybe catch up in a few this week.

Yeah a good horror sounds good. My woman watches them through her fingers so she can't see the whole picture at the potentially jumpy bits  :couch:

Just back from watching Gone Girl and it was fantastic and one of the best films I've seen this year.

I loved everything about this film buut I expected to as I'm a big fan of David Fincher. Also once again Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have produced and amazing score and if you liked their work on The Social Network and Girl With The Dragon Tattoo then you'll love this. Full of dark creepy atmosphere that really adds to the film.

Ben Affleck was very good in his part but the standout for me, and my wife, was Rosamund Pike as she was fantastic in her role.

      Well worth a watch.

I've read the book and I really liked it, so can't wait to see the film and see how it looks on the big screen.

I watched The judge yesterday, it's a good family drama about the messed up relationships between a dad and his sons, especially the son played by Robert Downey Jr. and I have to say, he was very good in the role worth a watch.

I just watched The Judge, with Robert Duvall & Robert Downey Jr.

Every scene makes its point, every line of dialogue weighs in.
But it works the material too hard - it's all so emphatic and
      over-egged and improbably tied together...

      8/10...  ;)

BBC 3 next Thursday night is a date to look out for.

      Drive

Zane Lowe has rescored, if that's the right term, one of my favourite films of recent years and I'm really looking forward to watching that.

It could go either way as I love the soundtrack and it is an integral part of the film and I'm not sure how I'll react when I watch it but it's an interesting thing to do.

Just finished watching this and it was interesting.

First off it didn't improve the film but I don't think Zane was trying too anyway so no criticism from me there.

I thought the score throughout was a little more dark and brooding and some parts really did improve on the original but the main scenes didn't especially the elevator scene. Still good but didn't have the same impact for me.

Closing  song really worked and overall I enjoyed it.

Cleared a few more films of my Lovefilm queue this month, none were great until tonight's one, a few that would fall into the interesting category though.

Rushmore, interesting and I'm still unsure if it was the quirkiness or the film that I enjoyed, The Mighty, touching comedy drama that again is quirky and, until tonight would have been my favourite they've sent me this month, Free Money, Charlie Sheen and Brando, again quirky and a small story, but an enjoyable watch.  He Got Game has a great performance from Denzel Washington and Always Outnumbered has a star turn from Laurence Fishburne that made both more than the small stories they contained. Very Bad Things was fun but deteriorated into silliness by the end.

Finally, my Lovefilm choice of the month, The Story Of Us.  Michelle Pfeiffer and Bruce Willis, essentially a character piece centring on their marriage.  Recognised far too many truths in it, uncomfortable at times but both leads carry this film with aplomb.

I liked it. Not sure I understood it so much, but maybe something I'd have to watch again.

      FURY

A dark, claustrophobic and foreboding depiction of how the "greatest generation"
not only fought against the evil of Nazism, but also the monster within themselves.

Watched the repeat on sunday night, and despite not being able to get the thought out of my head that Ryan Gosling looked like one of Harry Enfields "Double Take" sketch characters, I really enjoyed it.

It's the first time I've seen it, so I don't know about a new score.
The one I saw (heard) was pretty good though.

Has anybody seen Interstellar yet? It's being released here tonight, but couldn't get a hold of tickets, can't wait to see what Nolan put together and see the performances of the cast.

      I've heard mixed reviews.
Although mostly from would be hipsters that have slated Nolan since TDKR.
