      Stamp Collectiing???
      Jul 12, 2009 12:06:51 am
      Anyone here know Stamp Collecting?

I have inherited a collection of approximately 3 Stamp Albums.  Mostly U.S Stamps, however their is a large amount of British and other European Countries represented.
The majority are aged from 1850's-1950's.   I am looking for good Stamp Collecting Software which will correctly catalog, price and sort the thousands of stamps in this collection.

It was my Grandfathers, he collected for a long time and was proud of the collection. I came to find out later that he collected as a form of escape. I think he had certain issues with PTSD after the War. He saw heavy action in the Pacific especially Okinawa.

The collection was his therapy and when he died he left it to me. So, I have wanted to properly catalog it, price it and store it in a safe deposit box, but I need an Insurance estimate.  It could be worth thousands or it could be worth nothing. I just need some help in determining its worth.

CRK left a good Google link for some software up top. One program looks good, you can add your stamps, Inventory, grade etc,etc... then it gives a current value based on your Inventory. Only problem is its $75.00 US. Which is a lot especially for a non-collector who would only use it once to catalog the collection.  Most of them are old. I may have a $10,000 stamp or a collection worth $10.00.  I only really want to Inventory it for Insurance reasons. If its worth money, I can hold onto it and put it in a safe for the future. If something happened to it like theft or fire I could collect Insurance on it.

My grandad used to collect stamps.  Think he had tons.

He used to have some price guide book - think it was called Stanley Gibbons or something.

Told you what everything was worth.
