      Picking up scouse?
      Jul 17, 2009 09:44:33 pm
Just wondering really. I've noticed one or two people who aren't from Liverpool saying things like 'boss' or 'well in' in their posts lately.

So if you're not from Liverpool, do you think you might be picking up a bit scouse by being on this forum? Or are you just being influenced from Carra or Stevie when they talk?  ;)

      Either way, I think it's 'boss'!  ;D

Well in Kenny, the more the merrier as far as I'm concerned. I guess that it will make people feel more a part of being LFC fans and members of our forum.

Well, I have always loved the Scouse accent. From being on the forum, you do read what others say and funnily enough, some of the words do stay in your head and you find yourself using them in every day life. I would love to have a scouse accent. Hopefully in a years time, I will be packing my bags to go and study at Liverpool John Moores and I have made it a goal of mine to pick up some of the lingo while i am over at Uni.

I'm not scouse but I've always said 'well in'. Never said 'boss' though. That's for shitbags :D

Then again my Grandad was scouse, maybe it's been passed on through him to my dad to me.

I think it's alright other's using the Scouse language providing they're not doing to impress others, which I think can be the case sometimes.

Please expand. This is something I was thinking of today actually. There's this dj on Radio City who might well be scouse, but because he's on the radio, he over exaggerates it so bad, it nearly makes me want to ring up the radio station and have a f***in' go at him!

Lad, I don't need to. If he wants to dress up as a woman and go round shooting a gun, that's up to him.  ;)

Well I think there are "Scouse" words and predominantly Scouse words. Words or phrases like "boss", "well in", "sound", "queen" (in reference to a nice old girl) are words that I'd say are predominately Scouse words, but have been adopted by people from outside the city. So I see no problem in non-Scousers using those words.

But words like "la" "bread" (in reference to money) "barney" (in reference to a scrap/fight) are, what I'd consider, solely Scouse words and when people from outside the city start using them I think it's trying to impress. There's predominantly Geordie words like "pet" or Cockney words like "bruv" and Liverpool has their own words which, in my opinion, should be used by people from the city.
