I'd add Plessis to the "joke" category. With the chances we had and a bit of luck we would have had them though. If only Babel the "Striker" could finish.

It was alright. Voronin wasn't bad at getting the ball forward, but when it came to him having the chances, he squandered them. Babel was pathetic as always, and missed a sitter again, when all he had to do was make contact with it.

Kuyt was good both offensively and was very good defensively. Degen was also very good when going forward.

I don't think we really deserved to lose all that much, but it isn't a big loss.

Well...

At least Aquilani looked superb when he came on, and Insua's wonderstrike is another positive.  Bring on Fulham!

Skrtel, I felt had a bad game. Plessis seemed negative on the ball. Aquilani had a great time when he came on, changed the game I feel.

Voronin and Babel were a joke the rest tried

Babel was absolutely pathetic. I thought Voronin did well towards the end though.

Post match threads will now only be started by a member of the forum staff.

There will be a 15 minute cut off time from the final whistle of every game where a member of staff will lock the live match thread and merge any posts into the post match thread.

This will enable any users who are starting a post at the final whistle to finish what they want to say and to stop users having one or two of their posts deleted when they are actually trying to help.

In the unlikely event that a member of forum staff are not able to do this, we would appreciate it if you keep the live thread active until a member of staff can start the post match thread.

Degen- Looked classy with his long runs up and down the wing wish we could see more of him

Skrtel- Bossed the defence and made sure no-one got passed him

Spearing- Got stuck in and reminded me of Mascherano

Kuyt- As usual was very active and made some good runs and clearenc es

N'Gog- Classy and skillful with alot more confidence

just one of those 'free' games really. I am not too annoyed that we lost however I am annoyed that some players didnt perform when this was their chance to.

I don't think we looked weak at all. Babel was sh*t, Plessis deffo let himself down big time and Voronin didn't really do the business, despite getting chances. We looked quite threatening going forward I thought. We just didn't put a foot in 2nd half. That's why we lost. We backed off too much whole game.

I take it back about the penalty.  I felt it would have been unfair, but seeing it again it should have been a penalty

Shows how weak our second string is.

I don't think we did too bad TBH.

I thought Voronin cost us in the first half with that pathetic backheel.  I literally cringe when I see that lad come on for us or start.  Ship him off in January, would rather another bosman forward to try his hand.

Anyway, there were some real positives to take out of the game, especially with Aquilani's introduction.  I can't wait to see what kind of impact the lad can have in a full 90 minute match.

For once, I'm not too disappointed with the loss. As a team that didn't field their best 11, I thought we did well.

My man of the match goes to Martin Skrtel. I thought he was boss back there, jumping in tackles, blocking and also supplying that long ball that lad to Insua's sweet half volley. I thought Spearing did well, showing his abilities with both feet and he made alot of forward passes.

Alas, a long awaited debut for Aquilani. Great long ball, that to Degen. Showed glimpses of his talent and was unlucky his scissors kick was blocked.

We can't be too disheartened by the defeat. I know we're in one competition less but we are still in what we crave the most - the Premier League. Not only that, we saw players like Skrtel, Insua, Spearing and Aquilani doing well.

Positives:

One competition less to think about - and let's face it, if we had to choose one competition to be out of, it'd be this.

Aquilani is nearly ready, and I'm f**king excited.

Spearing was a lot better.

N'gog looked very good when he was on the field.

Degen played on the whole quite well despite some mistakes.

The main downside for me is not that we're out of the competition but that there will now be less opportunities for the youngsters / fringe players to get a game

Negatives:
-Babel
-Plessis
-Voronin (to a much lesser extent than the two previous)
-Subs came on too late.

Positives
- Aquilani made his debut, and looked impressive
- Degen
- N'gog
- Center backs
- Insua's wondergoal.

cetral defence was crap..spearing won't be able for the step up.. the difference when aqualani came on was very evident. Also Babel looks like he has thrown in the towel for liverpool.. Voronin was average but still had his best few mins for liverpool.Degan and Insua look good going forward but defensively are very poor.
In honesty the game means nothing..
I would have preferred to see aqualani start and get a full half and be taken off at half time..

Before we played the Mancs and looked at the next few fixtures I said this is the one we could afford to lose if we are to lose any because after all it is the least important.

Sure it would have been good to go on and win it but I would rather us be out of this than the title race or Europe.

Fair few positives to take from this game, like the performance of N'Gog, he looked much more confident going into this game. Also seeing Insua get off the mark in spectacular fashion and Aquilani make his debut and he played some very good passes, especially the one out to Degen.

This match also showed that some players just aren't good enough, I.e. Babel and Voronin. They don't perform when we play our big guns and they done even worse against a bunch of youngsters. They both had great chances to get it back to 2-2 but they fu**ed them up.

I wouldn't get too down beat about this game, more important game at the weekend IMO.

MOTM? I don't know. I was most impressed by Ngog, Degen, Insua and Aquilani. Soti wasn't bad either, but those four.

Someone else said it...I don't know if I can defend Babel anymore. I want him to do well, but time after time it's the same thing. the only one left mystified by his technique is himself.

Aquilani will have Lucas shitting himself. I know it was twenty minutes, but they were twenty inspired minutes.EDIT: by Aquilani.

Joke
Babel
Voronin

The rest did alright, Degen and Aquilani played best. Benayoun and Kuyt were invisible which is a bit frightening as they are regular first teamers.

*Looks at score. Looks at side on the field. Looks at name of competition. Shrugs*

Aquilani was really the only thing I looked forward to about the game, and it looks like he was promising. Other than that, always have a hard time caring about this cup. Never like to see Liverpool lose but it isn't a big loss. And a lot better than the 6-3 result a few years ago.

Bring on Fulham!!!
