What happens if we beat Debrecen 5-0? Doesn't it give us enough goals to just win over Fiorentina?

I may be wrong but I think in the CL it goes on performance against each other before goal difference.

Yes then goals against that Fiorentina scored so ifwe finish on the same points we have to beat them by by three clear golas

However, we could beat Fiorentina 2-0 and go through if we have a better goal difference?

Quote from: From the BBC
Teams level on points are separated by:

1) The results of games between the teams in the tie (if tied, by goal difference and then by away goals counting double).

2) Goal difference in all group games.

3) Highest number of goals scored in all games.

4) Highest Uefa ranking over the previous five seasons.

To secure the group win, it's a must win game for Lyon as well so I think they will make the effort to do so. I think that's good for us but we deffo have a job to do in Hungary. But like I predicted earlier ; 2-0 for us and 2-1 to Lyon.

Come on boys, lets just fulfil our side of the bargain, first and foremost. Then hopefully Lyon can do us a favour and set up another enthralling European night at Anfield.

Let's do this I BELIEVE.

Rafa is so defensive mind. Then how come we still so sh*t at defence?!
I think Rafa's been more offensive over the past few years. He brought players who could score goals such as Torres and Johnson.
I think his offensive approach lead to an imbalance in the defence evident with solid players leaving from the likes of Hyypia and Arbeloa.
Then we've been struck with defencive problems. Lighten up, we are LIVERPOOL !! Cheesy

Ontopic, I hope karma works/is true! =P
I think Lyon would win with an injury time goal. If they could score against us in both home and away, why not at Fiorentina?
In short: Lyon wins by 1 goal and a Liverpool win!! (who cares about the score)
Just hope I dont jinx it!! D:

Too much negativity in this thread from posters, FF'S, Get a grip, Fickle fans fickle minds, We are going to win we will make it thru,Yeah we have to rely on others buit we are LFC, I honestly have never felt or read such negative vibes form today's fans, Its not over until the fat bi*ch sings, We have been down this road before and prevailed and we will do so again, Ask yourself this... If we had to win to finish top of the group would Rafa field a weakened side?? No... I don't think so.....C'mon u redmen.... 0-3 victory for us.

We will do the job against Debrecen, we all need to pray Lyon do us a favour.

Even a draw would make me happy it would throw our destiny back in to our own hands.

Not sure if you guyz have read these but here are the injury updates:
Quote
Rafa Benitez is confident both Glen Johnson and Daniel Agger can play key roles for Liverpool in Debrecen despite injury concerns over the weekend.
Johnson was set to play against Man City on Saturday until tests on the morning of the game revealed he was not 100 per cent.

Agger did start but departed on a stretcher following a clash of heads which left him needing five stitches.

Both are in the 18-man squad for Tuesday's Group E clash, and Benitez told his pre-match press conference: "If we decided to bring them here it's because we think they can play. We will train (on Monday night) and then we'll see.

"You know that for us it's important now to have players coming back from injury. You talk sometimes about players being available but not ready, but at least if they are training we have more options."

Another player present and correct on the plane to Hungary was Steven Gerrard following a groin problem.

He played his first full 90 minutes since October 4 on Saturday and Benitez is hopeful any injury troubles are now behind the England man.

"He was tired the other day but it was a difficult game," said the boss.

"When you are more or less three weeks without training with the team, to play 90 minutes is not easy. He was a little bit tired but I think he will be okay for Tuesday."

On when Liverpool fans can expect to see Fernando Torres in action again, Benitez added: "He is improving. We were talking before about three weeks. He still needs time but he's working with the fitness coach and physios every day. We cannot put a deadline on it but he's doing well."

Journalists from around the world were present as Benitez gave his pre-match thoughts. An Italian reporter wanted to know if summer signing Alberto Aquilani would feature in Hungary.

The gaffer said: "Aquilani is in the squad so he can play. It depends. The team has some players in his position now - Gerrard coming back and the two midfielders (Lucas and Mascherano) doing well, but he'll have his chances.

"We want him as soon as possible but we have to manage with the squad."

The Hungarian press pack were also out in force, with one journalist asking why their young goalkeeping hope Peter Gulacsi was not in the squad.

Benitez said: "We are really pleased with him. He's a fantastic keeper and a really good lad. He's doing really well but we have a second keeper in Diego Cavalieri and I'm also very happy with him.

"But we are pleased with all the players we've got from MTK Hungaria."

They fielded a weakened team at the weekend in the league, so got a feeling they might be going for a result in Florence, it would also help them finish top of the group, thus avoiding some of the bigger teams in the second round.

Like the sound of that!

Not sure if you guyz have read these but here are the injury updates:

I was just about to post that!

Just been looking at pictures of the squad training so hopefully we'll have Agger, Johnson, Benayoun and Auerlio back tonight.  Stevie has 90 minutes under his belt after Saturday, so will be getting stronger.  We can do this!  I've gone for a 2-0 to us.  Just have to hope that Lyon do the business as well.

Come on you REDS!

To all the negative tw*ts on here look at the header on this thread, BELIEVE !
You can only take one game at a time, the Lyon result has no bearing on us unless we WIN our game, we should be talking about our performance not Lyons.
The only people who can turn this season around (both domestically and on the European front ) are the 18 players who have taken that flight.
WE WILL WIN TONIGHT, everything else can wait for another day !

I fully believe everything will go our way tonight, we have a knack of setting up special winner takes all matches, especially in the champions league. Like the match against Olympiakos in 04-05 UCL, everyone remembers what a night that was at Anfield, heres hoping we have another similar one on the 9th december.

That wasn't meant as a negative comment, by the way. I'm still very optomistic about our chances, this is the LFC way of doing things!

Optimistic about our chances? I have to ask, how!? I'm not having a go or anything mate but I'm actually just fascinated that someone out there is optimistic about our chances when it is out of our hands and to be honest extremely unlikely we will go through.

I reckon we'll win tonight fairly comfortably but I don't see Lyon doing us a favour. Even if they did get a draw I still wouldn't fancy our chances of a 3-0 win with the injuries we've been getting and the form we're in.
