Looks like Silva is on the verge of a 28 million euro deal to Real another target gone.

Silva to Real makes it all the more likely VDV will leave though.

I like VDV, but he seems to have a bit of an attitude and fades in and out of games - I'd rather have sneijder.

I'm unsure about VDV coming to us. I really rate him as a central attacking midfielder playmaker type player, but with Aquilani and Gerrard here, doubt we'd get him for that position? He's best played in the hole behind Torres or slightly dropped back. We shouldn't get him for the left wing I think, I feel he doesn't have enough width or speed. But, the world cup might show I'm wrong there, I kind of hope so. There's been calls from the dutch squad to play with VDV, Sneijder, Robben and Van Persie, which would mean VDV is positioned most likely on the left.

I like VDV, but he seems to have a bit of an attitude and fades in and out of games - I'd rather have sneijder.
An attitude? If anyone has the right attitude then it's him. What did he do to make you think he has a bad attitude? Out of those two Sneijder is the one with the bad attitude. VDV has the kind of attitude you'd want all Liverpool players to have.

Yeah, he had a crazy year at Real. Last summer he was told he had to leave, not allowed to train with the squad, not even given a number. But he decides to stay and fight for his spot. While at the same time his wife has been diagnosed with cancer, she battled it with chemo first half of the season. Meanwhile VDV manages to fight himself back into the team eventually as a regular starter. The kid got heart, he never complained, just worked harder. Sneijder is the opposite, huge ego, needs to be pampered, doesn't accept being benched etc. I remember him saying about the situation last summer at Real: I wanted to fight for my spot, but after two weeks nothing had changed and I decided to leave. Two weeks!

Any proof? I've just been able to follow him closely in dutch media for the past 8 years because I'm dutch. And he's been in the media alot, he likes attention, recently married a dutch celebrity(hot!), they're even considering a real life soap etc. He isn't a bad guy though, but he has a big ego, he's just very lucky he has the talent to match that ego.

Milner, Cole, Mata, Silva and Ireland.

I'd like to see a world class striker added but I dont have a favourite that I think we can realisticly get to be honest.

Abognlahor would be alright if we got Milner but that aint gonna happen.

How much do you guys think Steven Fletcher (Burnley) would cost? They signed him last season for 3 million and he was Burnley's player of the season.

I've said it a few times already but I really think he would be a perfect signing. Not very expensive (I believe), young and talented, can play on the left if needed too.

And if I'm not mistaken he's a Liverpool fan. His dad was a scouser.

Big fan of his. Shone very brightly in a mediocre side.

Couple of players we've been very briefly linked to this week:

Upson, Behrami, Guiseppe Rossi, Diego Forlan, Bentley and Reto Ziegler.

Of those, i'd take Bentley, Rossi and Upson. But the money needed for those would be roughly 30m.

I'd love to have Rossi, I'm a big fan of his talent and he has thunder in that left foot of his. Too bad he was a Manc at one point. Get him in!

To answer the topic question. . . Somebody who will give their all everytime they put on the shirt. Someone who, even if the season doesnt turn out the way they wanted it to, will refuse to let their head drop and will give the players around them a wake up when required. If they can also keep the ball that ll be a nice bonus
