Wanted: Left Back...Dossena?

Maybe for most this would seem like a knee jerk, but I've been thinking; was it the correct decision to sell Dossena, especially at the time we did? I'm no so sure about that as we are now playing with a beleaguered "promising" LB in Insua. I get the feeling even if Aurelio returns we wont see an extended run in the league by him, by no stretch of the imagination; he's certainly quality and certainly our number 1. Sadly, he since he's been here, always has struggled to fight off his proneness to injuries. With that in mind, the selling of Dossena has left us short with the ever willing, and ever short, Insua. Short of speed, depth, defence, height, and most importantly wisdom. Not really knocking the lad, for with the exception of height he can improve all these things. But, at the moment we still need some security at left back. I am not saying Dossena is anything great at defending. I am wondering if we sold ourselves short in selling him.
Even if his intentions were geared towards playing better for the World Cup, did we really need the money that we sold him for? I don't know, as far as I am concerned that must have been a straight split in to numb nuts pockets. Given the fact we knew of Aurelio being prone to injury, were we giving too much responsibility to the young Insua? One thing I know for sure, at the moment; he's a definite liability, one that we could have avoided. Again, I make mention, why sell him if we were not prepared to get an adequate replacement? For it would seem that buying a him, or even any left back at that matter; at the time we did made no sense. Or maybe it did, but perhaps we sold him at the wrong time. I'm not certain who we can afford at left back right now, but I think realistically, he would've been doing a better job in the squad with an extended run like Insua is having. Well, he may have set his mind on leaving, but not replacing is no excuse. Who should we get or give a run?

Dossena was sh*te.
I'd actually go as far as saying Insua is better. However Insua is a weak link in our defence.

Dossena was a nightmare.
Got found out and it was the right decision to sell him back to Italy. A bad buy but in retrospect was only a minor financial dent.

So JD was dreaming of Sh*te.
I still think there was a need to use the money and replace him.

Would cost an arm and a leg though.
Milan were going to sign him last summer but he failed his medical due to "dental" problems but it was later revealed he had spinal issues.
Brilliant left back though.
But back on topic, Dossena was sh*t house.

Dossena is worst left back I have seen. Worse than Traore.
Both Insua and Dossena don't fill ne with confidence at the back but atleast Insua has a bit more about him in terms of tackling ability.
And would Dossena have 6 assists in the league right now? Insua is great going forward whereas Dosena isn't.
It was either sell now for £4.4m or risk losing more by showing how sh*te he is.

We were lucky to get rid of Dossena for the price we did, he really is bad. But so is Insua I dont rate him at all he's a liability in defence. I wreckon we try Agger/Johnson at left back like Shabbadoo suggested before me.

Dossena managed to achieve several times a run up the wing, followed by a terrible cross that gave the opposition the ball and left us with 3 at the back. He was utter p**h. Insua isn't the best but he's still quite young and all we have at the present moment.

He was an extremely poor signing by Rafa if I'm being honest and we were lucky to get what we did for him. Not a fan of Insua but he is better than Dossena. I'll always remember a game where Bernard Mendy took him apart.

Should never got rid of Riise so fast after one poor season, and certainly not for the price we did (many clubs can sell much worse players for much more money than f**king £3M). He'd had a crap season then but he was a much better player and a great servant to the club.

I can understand why Rafa bought him, Italians are usually good defenders.
Dossena wasn't suited to the English game, but I'll never forget the goal he scored last season against the SCUM. 0-4 HA HA.

Seems to have finally come into his own hasn't he.
Not sure though defensively - Spurs seem to be using him as a left-midfielder at the moment where he looks pretty handy.
Doubt they'll let him to us either.

Lahm is well over rated, can be terrible defensively if you watch german football youll see it week in week out..
Kind of agree with the topic.. Doss had potential imo just never got a great run, never settled into the team and after some shockers never regained his confidence, dont think he was ever into moving to england anyway all happened quick and he just took the money but in a parallel galaxy far far away Doss is boss

Taye Taiwo of Olympique Marseille or Marcell Jansen of Hamburg are two worth taking a look at, the latter can play any where up the left as well and at 6' 3" would add some much needed height to our back line. Probably more in our price range and both capable of playing as attacking full backs.

We've got a left back.
Glen Johnson.
Martin Kelly looks a prospect at right back. I thought he was the best player on the pitch against Lyon and he did well when he came on tonight.

Daniel Agger at LB? I sometimes wonder how much people really watch football on this forum. Can that really be a serious suggestion? A lumbering 6'3 defender with strength, who is great in the air. Yer lets take him out of his position and put him at LB, and why? the only reason I can see is that he is left footed. Just ludicrous.

Agger's played as a roaming central defender down the left before and with success.
He has the game to do so if we need. Unfortunately, Insua may have to keep going as we need Agger to play in the centre with Carragher the Calamitous.

Agree, we need a left back desperately, especially with Aurelio being injured a lot, and out of contract at the end of the season. Stevie Warnock would have been perfect at the moment.

I think people are assuming that I'd like Dossena here, I was simply wondering; given the the horrid time Insua is having at the moment, would it have made sense to sell Dossena and bring a left back at the same time? By no means am I suggesting Dossena was the answer to our left back problems. But we need one at the moment...
