Is there any proof that he actually said these things? I.e, was it an interview with the radio station that was aired or was it just one of their reports? I am trying to think of ways around this and I am keeping my fingers crossed that it was just a report and that there is no evidence of him actually saying it.

After a deal to bring Silva to the club was stopped because the Yanks wouldn't fund it for double Riera's price tag (deal struck for 15m for Silva).

Riera was his back up choice. Again he didn't get his man.

But Riera is sh*te. I thought Rafa paid too much for him in 8m pounds reportedly, for a one season wonder. Didn't like him when he was at Espanyol, was laughing when Everton wanted him, and was fuming when we signed him.

If he did or didn't say these things, he's still woeful an hopefully does f**k off to Russia.

Yeah it was an interview with Radio Marca in Spain so its 100% true unfortunately.  Unless they used voice recognition technology to stir the pot before a big game on Sunday, not impossible but unlikely.

To be honest, I can't tell Riera's Spanish voice apart from any other Spanish guy.  Clutching at straws here though.

It can go 2 ways. Hell back himself up by putting in a top display or hell back up Rafa's point of not playing him by giving another lacklusture display. If its the first great if its the second whip him off and tell him to keep his mouth shut if he cant back it up.

It is unacceptable. And Id f**k him out in the summer. But Id use him between now and then if he works hard he can be a player and if he was played now he'd have to work his socks off to back up the s**te hes spewed in the press. If he plays sh**te let him waste away then

He knows full well that he's in the shop window of the most famous club in the world that is focused upon because of its troubles at the moment, so everybody is watching !

It is my opinion that there are far too many benchwarmers in the game today (just like Reira !) at all clubs !
back in the good old days 1972-73 we used just 17 players, 4 players played all 66 matches, yes 66 !
7 played over 60 matches !
We LOST 7 league games and STILL won the league by 3pts and a second rate European trophy, for the 1st time.

And before anyone claims the game has changed and is a lot faster, one of the main reasons for that in my opinion is the state of the pitch's, I've recently watched the Big Match Revisited on Men & Motors and some of the pitches didn't have a blade of grass on them, It didn't stop great games being played on them though !

Some of the players (and I use the word lightly!) today won't lace there f**king boots up if the pitch isn't reminisent of a golf club green.

Your priority in them days was your club first then your country, far too much money flying about these days if you ask me (and even if you don't ask me, it's still true !)
