Word out of the club is that if he leaves its because he wants to play more and the club prefer him to stay.

There is no animosity or issues he just wants maximum game time whereas the club see him as a specialist.

Can, Milner & Henderson are not coming out of the squad if they are healthy....it leaves Lucas/Lallana/Allen/Tex/Rossiter/Markovic....fighting for time depending on the situation.

It's possible that Lucas sees himself as an every week starter and perhaps at some clubs within certain leagues he would be...I don't think he is here however.

Lucas leiving (I am hilarious) is really a bad decision. Its not fair enough to say it's his decision because it's the coaching staffs decision to put him down the list. In my opinion Can, Henderson and Milner should be fighting for the two spots in front of him. WE look more like a team when he plays.

Could not agree more. Lucas allows Can, Hendo & Milner to play their more natural game, but most importantly, the team has balance and composure!

Hopefully, tonight has shown how important Lucas is and how he is one of our key players. Should definitely be starting the majority of our games.

Perhaps he's not in the manager's plans for the starting XI at this phase of the season, but it's a very long season and Rodgers knows that, hence why he wants him here. And I hope he realises that too.

Before we know it, the games will be coming thick and fast and Lucas will be needed to start quite a lot of games. Also, we need to keep in mind that the formation may change in the season for certain games. Haven't seen any change so far in formation and no drastic lineup change because its the start of the season and Brendan has wisely stuck to it to get us into a rhythm.

This is the same for guys like Markovic and even the likes of Kolo Toure who will see playing time for sure. They haven't played a minute so far and Lucas hasn't played the amount of time he wants, but its a good strategy from the boss as these players will be more fresh towards the end of the season and could help us in the tailend games where we dropped off massively last season.

In the pre match interview, Brendan clearly said "Lucas is our best DM". Why would he want to get rid of our best DM? He'd want to have a better DM coming in if he's offloading Lucas!

And with that, Liverpool refused his loan transfer. I think it is a good idea to leave here this season. He is stabile and experienced and we can not replace everyone in one year.

The season is long Lucas be a little patient.

Yep mate, he'll get his chance for sure. When he does, he has to make himself undroppable.

I think he certainly done that Monday night mate, yes he faded as the game went on, but that's lack of game time, he'll get up to full 90 fitness the more we play him and for me he earned his staring berth against West Ham.

Depending on who we play would it not be better for us to use Lucas in away games and play somebody a little less defensive minded at home? I only say this because the last thing we need is for him to pick up another injury as I think he'll be very important for us as the season goes on.

It depends how you see it really, if your pigeon holing Lucas as a Defensive Midfielder then I can see your point, but Lucas can retain and recycle possession as well as any other midfielder in our squad, so if you thought about it as Milner and Henderson doing the running and Lucas holding his position in a midfield 3 then it makes perfect sense to me as he's the more disciplined of the 3 and would perform the role better than both Can and Allen due to his experience and ability to read the game.

Same here, his prescience back there will give the others licence to get forward, both Henderson and Milner have great engines and have the ability to get beyond the front man and make late runs. They didn't do much of that in the first two games.

I have no doubts about that myself mate but let's wait and see what BR does once Jordan's fit. I see Lucas, in BR's plans, no matter how well he's playing, dropping back to the bench.

I agree. Thought he was very good at recycling the ball and always looking for the forward passes. Too often we saw Lucas playing the creative passes which shouldn't be the case in my opinion, something Milner or Can should be doing more often than not, but due to their lack of ball playing skills, Lucas had to take up that role :(

My 10,000th post has to be dedicated to this guy. Been with us for 8 years now and while I've toed and froed on his position in the team many times during the last 8 years he's ALWAYS proved me wrong. He doesn't complain, he gets his head down and is an all round top bloke as well as a fantastic player. He's a wonderful role model for everyone.

An honour to have seen him play in the red shirt and here's hoping to many more!

I find it funny that Lucas is probably more creative and positive than Milner and Can(when played in midfield).

Best midfielder on show, which just highlights how poor our midfield is compared to our competitors.
