Other than the rules coming in, why would you want to buy English players? They're too expensive and arguably no better than the cheaper foreign alternatives. Ok, they may understand the league a little better, but so will another foreign player who has been here a few years.

Roy Hodgson is ready to go head to head with Sunderland counterpart Steve Bruce in a £6million battle to sign Wigan left back Maynor Figueroa.

Would love to see Joe Cole here to be honest. If Roy can pull this off then it would be a great deal for us. I really like Joe Cole as a player and i think he'd jump at the chance to link up with Gerrard and Torres. One very under-rated player is Joe, stifled at Chelski, a waste of a very good player.

I think he was really wasted at Chelsea. He could have achieved so much more if he was a player who played week in and week out. Hopefully he gets that at Anfield if he does come. Hope Carra and Stevie talked to him about it.
