      'Siamese stadium' in Liverpool?
      May 10, 2010 04:21:12 pm
I have just come across this and it has to be the most fu**ed up things I have seen in the media to date..!!! :lmao: :lmao:
but I hope it never comes of anything too..! :f_steam:

Liverpool and Everton could share a revolutionary 'Siamese stadium' under new plans revealed by a business consortium.

The Merseyside rivals would effectively have separate grounds in Stanley Park connected by a central spine housing collective facilities, according to proposals released to the Liverpool Echo.

Mersey Stadia-Connex group, who are behind the idea, claim the design could save the clubs between £180m-£220m, while allowing them their own stadia.

The blueprint proposes a 60,000-seater ground for Liverpool and a 50,000 capacity for Everton, to be completed as soon as 2013. The 10-story spine includes a 300-bed hotel, hospitality facilities, 150 executive boxes and a huge underground car park.

A spokesman for the Mersey Stadia-Connex group said: "We need to reach the prospective new owners of Liverpool FC to inform them about this sensational investment opportunity.

"Most fans will understand the many advantages and financial implications. This scheme differs from all previous concepts during the last decade in that we believe it manages to achieve all the clubs' objectives."

However, an Everton spokesman sounded a sceptical note about the idea, telling the Liverpool Echo it was "unworkable, unaffordable and undeliverable".

Liverpool announced a £55 million annual loss last week and have identified a move to a larger stadium as a key requirement to improve the club's finances.

Their plans for a new ground in Stanley Park are on hold while co-owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks attempt to sell the club. Various proposals have put the stadium's capacity between 55,000 and 73,000. Anfield's current capacity is 45,362.

A club spokesman said: “We remain committed to building our new stadium in Stanley Park.”

Truthfully, I think it's a great idea... for clubs who don't share a rivalry.

And, I think it's a silly idea because, when both Liverpool and Everton play at home, surely there's going to massive traffic.

What we need is a 60-65000 seater potentially expandable to 75000 for the future. And a 'separate' stadium please. I'd warm to the conjoint-stadium plan only in a position like 'Holy F**k! Please don't shoot me, just gimmie the f***in twin bra-stadiums'. Shared stadium on the other strap, is out of debate as far as I am concerned

Would prefer a shared stadium, I do believe there are chemicals that can change colour quite quickly, with the turn of a n*b, so we could change seat colours for LFC or EFC matches, we could leave some drawing pins on the seats for them after we have played too.

that twin stadium is a bit madcap, but it makes financial sense, a massive shared stadium that out trumps OT and Wembly would make us the football capital of the UK, would be better though.

I love the idea of the still occasional friendly rivalry I have with certain blues and the football quarter would be brilliant if it came off, but this idea, apart from holding up our own plans whenever they eventually come to fruition, have they thought about how this affects the rest of Stanley Park.

As for sharing a stadium with them, I wouldn't even share a cold!!

Dont think so Mate i would hate to share the stadium with Everton. so if the stadium had a 1 teir stand ( the kop ) for liverpool and when we were playing away and Everton were at home i cant see them sitting in the kop so at Everton home game the Away fans would be sitting in the Kop ( Man U, Chelski, ) i am sure someone made this point ages ago when we people were talking about sharing a stadium if we were going to share a Stadium it would of been done years ago on the Docks they were going to build a 50,000 Stadium and Liverpool Refused to Share. Its not the way foward it's so European Is there a Football team in Scotland or England who Share a Stadium no its a load of Shi*e. NO,NO,NO.

If you can get past the rivalry aspect (which I know many of you can't, and I understand why) the concept can work.

This is Seattle's Qwest Field (NFL and MLS - 67,000) and Safeco Park (baseball - 47,116).

A thread with great photos on Safeco: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=707504

      and Qwest: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=199561

This is Kansas City's Arrowhead Stadium (NFL - 81,425) and Kauffman Stadium (baseball - 38,030).

To be fair both of those examples are for two different sports.  I'd imagine people who root for the baseball team support the city's other teams.

You're photographs also highlight the ability for infrastructure for car parks etc.  That just isn't the case for Liverpool which is right in the middle of a densely populated area with single lanes of traffic.

Anybody familiar with the layout of Anfield, Goodison and Stanley Park will quite rightly laugh at the very first picture in the thread as totally unworkable.

In fact I think some teenager had too much time on their hand on Photoshop.  I don't even believe the story was remotely credible.

Thanks for posting those pictures though soxfan, although I'd imagine many Liverpool fans looking at those pictures will think it looks like a very soulless experience.

I wouldn't want us to have anything as soulless as that, but Stanley Park is a pretty big park.

I think there is about 1200 car spaces on the existing Stanley Park site.

Looks like there's some kind of blue and white shed just north of Stanley Park Lake. We could bulldoze that monstrosity and build a multi-story there.

I really need to get in tune...I knew of course that Everton were a local club, had no idea Anfield was so close...bloody ignorant yank

Don't worry about it, we know you're still learning and it's great that you're interested anyway.
What I like to do sometimes is go on Google Streetview and have a look around the area. It'll give you a sense of how hemmed in both stadiums are and why expansion is such an issue.

      I actually thought it was a port-a-potty.

Thanks for posting those pictures though soxfan, although I'd imagine many Liverpool fans looking at those pictures will think it looks like a very soulless experience.
Tell that to the 81,000 Chiefs fans dressed in red who fill Arrowhead every Sunday.  :D

      1. ..........but Everton are a small club so they would need a small stadium.

      2. We would have to make sure we were upwind of any prevailing smells emanating out of their ground.

      Too technical that.

I'm well up for this, I mean how much would their wood cost to our steel, we'd be robbing them blind!

I wouldn't share a bag of chips with the bitters, nevermind Stanley Park! Pity we have to share the town with them!

Why don't we take over both the stadiums and let Everton play on their training ground for change?

This could work, with a 65,000 main stadium with a 20-25,000 second stadium. We'd have the large 65,000 ground with the second one for our reserves and youth games! As for those bitters they can rot were they are!

Think we all know no matter what economic sense this would make it isn't going to happen. It looks bloody awful too despite the obvious negativity it would receive.

I also don't believe the redevelopment of Anfield is an option, we all have a special place in our hearts for the place but for our club to succeed at the very highest level now it is holding us back and sentimentality does not win League titles. Liverpool have a fan base big enough to fill 100,000 seater and to compete with the likes of Shitty and Chavski we have to move and we will move, the quicker the better. We will without doubt sell the naming rights but everyone will call it Anfield anyway so good luck to the bidders!

Do you work for the city council?

Surprised your not advocating a shared stadium as well.

By the way where was the fan base at home to Bolton on New Years Day! Our fanbase isn't big enough to fill a 100,000 seater, especially if we're not doing well.

Our Anfield ground means everything to me, Stanley Park is just a Park.

I wouldn't vote for a shared stadium either, sharing grounds with the bitters didn't work once before and it wont work again. Just because something has such emotional ties you should also appreciate the financial noose it puts around our neck and the longer we stay the tighter it gets.

If you're willing to let your heart rule your head you'll make many mistakes in your life and if you were given charge of this choice this would be a massive one for Liverpool's future. In the end you'd live to regret it and have done massive damage to a club you clearly love.

The time has come to close the doors and keep the gates of what is and has been a fantastic home for us.

I wouldn't want us to have anything as soulless as that, but Stanley Park is a pretty big park.

I think there is about 1200 car spaces on the existing Stanley Park site.
There's a place Northeast of Stanley park where those bitters can make do with their stadium...
