In the Echo tonight Phil Thompson is quoted as saying "If - and it's a big if - players are sold then that cash has to be reinvested in the squad, and not go to the banks to pay off debt. No matter what you say about Rafael Benitez he wasn't heped in that area (understatement). The board have to back Roy financially."
From that statement it appears then that the appointment of the new manager is no more than a diversion because the same conditions prevail that were apparent with Rafa ie no money to invest in the squad and the owners are as predatorial as ever if not more so.

Think we need a gross income thread.

We are gonna lose atleast 4 big names to balance the books, gerrard, torres, mascherano and kuyt.

Dont be suprised to see aquilani in that list or the jan transfer.

Dark days ahead even more so.

granted I don't think if the board are giving anything it will be big. however, the sale of javier mascherano who roy doesn't want to leave as he doesn't want anyone to leave has voiced he wants champions league football that we wont have at anfield next season therefore getting £25m - £30m for him would let us bring in quality along with Jovanovic which is done I think. Hopefully masch doesn't leave but if he wants to we cant stop him anyway I think we will get silverware next season I have a great felling about Roy.

Good net spend thread this.

I like the way everyone's talking about general transfer speculation.

Especially when there is an entire board for discussion of transfers

Liverpool have made a transfer profit of £7.4M since the January transfer window.

If we are reinvesting the money from players then that is money we should already have for new players.  Even before they give us a 'transfer budget'.

The forced sale of a few key players will have a big impact on this.

Either way, it will be less than his budget at blackburn.... from 12 years ago. And that's with inflation.

NOT A PENNY MORE

« Reply #41 on: July 18, 2010, 11:26:12 AM »

I've just deleted a load of totally off topic posts in this thread.

It has been set up to track what Christian Purslow's Roy Hodgson's net spend is currently up to. As JD has put it earlier this month, there is an entire board for transfer speculation/opinion, etc.

Any further off topic posts are simply going to be binned.

So we are still at -11m, with our 2 free signings this summer. Knowing our owners though, they will say that with wages, we are break even now.

It should be taken into account that while joe cole's transfer is labled "free", he would have got a hefty signing on fee - just hope roy gets all the money from players sold.

In the interests of fairness we should look into any additional fees for Joe Cole.

I know we all like to say the owners lable contract improvements under transfer funds, and that sucks - but in this case its true! I bet Joe took a nice signing on fee too... There should be some compensation made against this in the opening thread.
