The New Anfield: Hicks & Gilletts final insult

I'm fairly new to this forum so apologies if this subject has cropped up before, however in light of today's news about the lack of refinancing options available to Hicks it might be a idea to canvas opinion of this subject.

Being an architecture student I always had an un-natural interest in stadia and in particular football stadium designs... and this topic has puzzled me for a while.

It's no secret that to move forward financially, we need to build a new stadium with a higher capacity, to boost match day revenue... thats a given. But I have two major issues with the proposed new stadium:

(1) The design... ok so design is a very personal thing.. but I think it does not reflect the basic principles of our club, it's more of a brash new generation American football stadium.. I could talk for hours about all the elements I don't agree with, but the bottom line for me is that it's ugly. 

(2) It's Hicks and Gillett who produced and authorised the damn thing and I don't want the spectre of them hanging over our heads for future generations. I would rather that their period of ownership is remembered for what it really is.... a shambles... and not the building blocks of our future.

Don't believe the hype about the 50 million spent on plans etc... that's just an untruth... I say we scrap this monster and under new ownership start afresh with something that we can be proud of in the future..

But what say you?

I say we scrap it and go for something more traditional. Shitty bowl stadium piss me off. Wembley, Emirates, that sh*thole MK Dons play in, and all the other round pieces of commercialised rubbish. They're all the F***ing same.

Also, I hate the massive gap between the touchlines and the stands. Should be like it is at Anfield now. The crowd should be right on top of you. If Im bored, I'll do a quick sketch-up of what I think the next Anfield should look like.

Id rather wait 10 years to possibly have Anfield extended (Very unlikely) than see this built up in 5 years (Even more unlikely).

There is a few big stadiums on these pages some modern some old.75000-90000 seaters.

I'd have to stop you on the Emirates. I think it's a magnificent stadium and probably the best 'new' stadium. It also generates a fantastic atmosphere.

What I do want from a future new stadium is a magnificent structure capable of holding at least 70,000 fans. It should be THE football beacon of the North of England.

It had one stand that goes all the way round. Thats not a football stadium.

I want an ACTUAL football ground. Not a multi-purpose "arena" or some sh*te like that.

I've said it before and I shall simply state what I have previously said.

We (being the fans) paid the £40m odd for those fancy pictures and videos, not Hicks & Gillett. They're our plans. It should be up to us what is done with them.

Annie Road end is a major waste of space on them plans.

Away fans should be tucked right in the top corner somewhere.

The thing is are we ever gonna' get a new stadium and are the new owners prepared to build one,also as CRK stated those plans were made well before H&G INTERUPTED the Club.

It really annoys me to high heaven with Square grounds that they can never get the corners right. The Dortmund ground above, The way the the 2 stands join is dreadful.

I do like valencias stadium.

Looks like there is 40.000 in the far end of that stadium,imagine that been the kop.Some noise.

Most of thier standing sections have seats which fold up, so you basically standing in the space in front of the seat.

Might have changed a little bit but the stadium was very impressive back in 2001!
