An extra 9000 what's the point!

Considering it's taken this long for phase 1 we can safely assume phase 2 wont be complete in the lifetime of most of us.

You sound like Tom Hicks! 'Manchester's is bigger, I want it to be bigger than theirs!' Only kidding.

Anfield is hardly in the most developed parts of Liverpool. I think it's much better to develop Anfield as we go along with the redevelopment of the area by the council. RedPuppy makes a great point about transport infrastructure which would need to be upgraded if 25000+ more fans were heading to Anfield on match day than they are at present. Expanding stadiums can only happen gradually, a 10,000 extra seats now, a 10,000 extra seats later - like other teams have done.

Also correct me if I'm wrong but when the idea of a new stadium was mooted it was only going to be capacity of 60,000 so what would be the point of that as well? I can only think the Chuckle Brother running of the club by Moores and Parry looked at what Arsenal were doing a decade ago and thought 'Let's be them' - completely forgetting the fact that it was impossible to extend Highbury from it's 38,000 (it would have been something if the club had tried buying the inhabited and, I suspect, wealthy middle class owners of the houses surrounding that ground!) and that North London is considerably different from the Anfield area with transport links and millions in population surrounding it.

Conservative estimates at the increase in LFC revenue from the Main Stand alone would be about £14M a season at Year 1.

Couple thing here doing it piecemeal

      As RP mentioned

      1. No huge debt that is going to take 30 years to pay off.
      2. No need for naming rights partner.
      3. No need to move or borrow somebody else's pitch (use goodison) for a few years during construction.
      4. Outside waiting for the city or others to build infrastructure, it can happen at the same speed as the stadium.

Sounds about right as phase 1 is supposed to be complete in 2017/18.

The mock-ups are fantastic..looks like they will make Anfield as unique tomorrow as it has always been in the past.

I got to admit I do admire the brutish look of the stadium, beats the bowl & curved look.

       :gt-happyup:

Yeah it's like a 21st Century version of Archibald Leitch stadium designs. Got really tired of these soulless looking bowls.

It all looks fantastic and it will be sure to give us much needed revenue, but one worry - all that hospitality. The prawn sandwich bridgade will surely be sitting there, so it's up to The Kop to drown out a deafening silence.

I think Kenny would get a stand named after him before Stevie would.

Most of all I would love to see a statue of Sir Bob alongside Sir Shankly, never understood the reasons why one has never been commissioned for our most suscceful manager.

When they seated the kop, you could buy pieces of 'kop rock' (i've got a couple at home)

So, when the main stand where my season ticket is - can i have my wooden seat ? i've sat in that seat for 30 something years and my dad before that - and I am pretty sure its the same seat ....

I am sure this is more difficult than a new build and it will be great when its done. However I must confess that when in the upper tier of the Centenary stand or the Kop its like watching subuteo players .
as long as they get going and get on with it I am at a point where I am that confused about the many different options we have had a look at for nearly 15 years I will be glad when its done.

Don't think so, I've not heard of anything.

Reminds me of the Holte End at Villa Park, maybe it's the brick work that resembles.

according to bbc thhe redeveloped anfield will have 58.900 seats, i thought it would be nearer to 64k, since old toilet has something around that. we shouldnt have problem selling tickets for the games, so i cant see why we shouldnt have a bigger stadium? anybody know the reason?

I believe that's phase one....phase two would take it nearer 64k.

Phase one is main stand - another 8,500 (taking it to 54k)

      Phase 2 - anfield rd - another 4,800 to 58,800

makes sense to do it piecemeal (the model for that approach is sadly the theatre of broken dreams - difference being their stadium is middle of nowhere, whilst ours is surrounded)

      As for re-couping cost - extra 8,500 seats - 19 league games a season , avg price £60  around £10m a year

Add in hospitality, and that number jumps up probably another 25% easily

Quite a few names could go before Gerrard, but a new stand would be indicative of his era I think.

I think the designs look fantastic and this just adds to the feel good factor around the club at the moment. So glad we are staying at Anfield rather than moving across to Stanley Park and it will also be fantastic to see the area lifted as a whole because even in the last 3-4 years it has gone massively downhill with so many of the pre-match drinking holes also going under.
