Used to like the Smiths, I remember when they were first on Top of the Pops and Morrisey came out with Gladioli sticking out of his back pocket

Love a lot of their songs especially Ask, Girlfriend In A Coma and The Boy With A Thorn In His Side. Fave will always be There Is A Light That Never Goes Out.

Can't believe there wasn't a thread for this already! There my joint second favourite band (behind Coldplay...I know it sounds bizarre - not the greatest but for nostalgic reasons they're my fave)!

I absolutely love The Queen Is Dead, the song, the whole album. Absolutely adore the lyric 'So I broke into the palace with a sponge and a rusty spanner'. There Is A Light That Never Goes Out is probably my favourite song of all time. Marr/Morrissey - the best musical combination since Lennon/McCartney. Oh and how can I forget The Edge and Bono!

Been listening to the albums in the car from work today and I never grow tired of them.

As Kenny says a special band with Morrisey's lyrics and Marr's excellent music they are unbeatable for me.

I love Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want. Such a simple song but with great lyrics:

      Good times for a change
      See, the luck I've had
Can make a good man turn bad

      So please, please, please
Let me, let me, let me
Let me get what I want this time

Haven't had a dream in a long time
      See, the life I've had
Can make a good man bad

So for once in my life
Let me get what I want
Lord knows, it would be the first time
Lord knows, it would be the first time.

      Excellent!!

Awesome band. One of my favourites ever.

Johnny Marr is up there with Joe Strummer and Paul Weller as my musical icons.

Johnny Marr - Rickenbacker - The Smiths

"Its like turning your daydreams into sound"

Johnny Marr demonstrates how he plays This Charming Man - BBC Out take

Best guitarist ever, in my humble opinion.

      Teenage angst and The Smiths
Back in 86 there was a band and that ruled this green and pleasant land.... can you guess who it was?

Yes that's right The Smiths....a band you could sing too and cry too and laugh too, a singer who knew what you were thinking and sang about it...A band for broken hearts and lost loves everywhere,a singer who sung songs about what you were going through as a teenager but is still relevant today and has stood the test of time...Someone you could turn to in your hour of need....Morrissey and Marr and the boys...it was a piece of magic .

Sadly i'm older now but i still listen to Morrissey and The Smiths when i feel a bit down or just when i need cheering up or when i remember that special girl from yesterday..

I wondered who you listen to when your feeling melancholy ...Is there anyone around today who can tap into those feelings like Morrissey could? If not then i feel sorry for today's Teenage angst...well only a little bit anyway.

The Smiths are so F***ing good it's ridiculous. I live in the United States so I wasn't as privy to Morrissey and his exploits in my younger years, but I've grown a huge erection for them over the years.

      My favorite Smiths songs are:

-There is a Light that Never Goes Out
      -Panic
      -Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now
-Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me
-You Just Haven't Earned it Yet Baby

So boss. It doesn't get better than "The Queen is Dead" and "Meat is Murder". Johnny Marr's guitar, Morrissey's voice = my orgasm.

      [/loving rant] :)

They make some decent music, but Morrissey is such a bellend that I can't listen to them anymore.

Bellend at time maybe but he's a stunning lyricist.

Now Thom Yorke - that is a c**t. Always will be a pale imitation of Morrissey. Wonky eyed moron. The rest of Radiohead are okay though.
