I was fortunately in my early 20's during the rise and reign of these bands and saw many of them live.

I saw PJ play just after TEN was released and they weren't as popular yet,  It was 92' at a festival, It might of been Lollapalooza. But they werent even a headliner, they actually opened up. I had already heard TEN and had it in my car on that day. When they were coming on I grabbed my friend and said lets go to the stage and check it out and he really didnt care, he was waiting for another band to play and I remember telling him that he needs to see this band.

This was back when you really didnt know if Eddie Vedder was going to kill himself on stage. They were playing "Porch" and he climbed 50ft into the scaffolding going across the stage, hanging by one arm, then climbed down to the speaker riser 20 ft right above my head and stage dived, me and my buddy caught him and lifted him back into security and on the stage.  When he landed he actually said  "You alright?"...I dont know if I answered or not, then he said "GODDAMN" and thats when we picked him up and pushed him onto the stage. He went right into it after that and it was just f***in nuts.

I never understood when people said a concert was "Electric".  Until that day. I will remember that performance for the rest of my life. My buddy, til this day, thanks me for making him go to the stage for Pearl Jam.

In the span of 24 months from the Summer of 91 to the Summer of 93, I was lucky enough too see Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Janes Addiction and Rage Against the Machine. All original lineups. When I was little my Dad used to tell me how he saw the Doors and Jimi Hendrix and the Rolling Stones w/ Brian Jones...I couldnt relate too it. Now I know what he meant.

In a 1994 interview with the LA Times, Vedder mused, "I think I'm probably a very difficult person to deal with. Things never seem to settle down and be normal, and I think that Beth has to deal with a lot. I don't want to get into our personal relations. But at times there is a tension... We are all selfish at heart, I guess. But I just know that without her, I'd be a kite without a string, a nothing man."

Going to see Chris Cornell here in Ft. Myers in May. An acoustic set but should be great if his Songbook album is any indicator.

Very jealous, mate. I was heavily into all of those bands around that time but nobody else at my school was and I was just that bit too young to go to gigs. I only knew of them because I spent most of my youth hanging around a local pub and one of the regulars was into grunge. It was 94/95 by the time I started gigging and even then, I couldn't really n*b off to London on my own when one of those came around. By about 97/98, I'd managed to see the majority of my idols though.

Any parents out there who's kids have an interest in music, please make the effort to take them to gigs. Not just the big arena pop concerts but the smaller venues, even if you've never heard of the band they're telling you about. You can always sit in the car and listen to radio 2 if you don't fancy going in with them and their mates! I'll never forget my first gigs and I'm so glad that I saw so many of my heroes while I had the chance but there are so many that I thought, 'maybe I'll catch them next time around'...
....Layne Staley, Kurt Cobain, Dimebag Darrell, James Lynn Strait...

Nice! Wonder if Lanegan would be up for it, he's touring around doing his solo stuff at the minute.

Always felt these bands were grunge bands.
Both with lead females on vocals.
      Both epic.

      The Cranberries - Zombie

      Skunk Anansie - Weak

      Skunk Anansie - Hedonism

      Skunk Anansie - Brazen (Weep)

Although I still maintain that there will never be another era like THE Grunge era, it seems there is a new wave of Grunge-influenced music coming along.

Here's one example. I can't find them on YouTube (only had a quick look) but go here, have a scroll down to Cheatahs - The Swan and listen to the sample:

They're signed to Witchita records and there are several acts on there who have Grunge undertones.

Good, but I would have said more of a Stone Roses sound.

The Minutes - Heartbreaker (Official Video)

      The Minutes- Gold

The Minutes - I.M.T.O.D (Live at The Workman's Club)

      The Minutes - Monster (Live)

Irish band. The Minutes. Played in Galway at the weekend.
Again, maybe not grunge but a bloody good band.

They're not, that's just not the best sample. The actual songs have a 'wall of sound' to them. If anything, I'd liken them to My Vitriol.

Good find. I only had time to scan the first page that came up and it was all videos of big cats

Definite grunge sound, I'd like to hear them open up a bit and give it some.

They'd make a great Nirvana cover band.

      I mean. Boo Rep.
You know if it changes too much it no longer is Grunge.
Although I believe that was firmly just a tag used for
the general Seattle music scene at the time. In that sense
there will never be another "Grunge".
