      2011's Must Have Albums
      Jan 04, 2011 02:00:16 pm
The year-end lists are behind us and it's time to look forward to a new year of music. There are quite a few I'll be looking forward to.

The top of my list is The Night Marchers, Obits, rival Schools and ...Trail of Dead's new releases, but J. Mascis, Gang of Four, The Mars Volta & The Twilight Singers will also be on my wish list. Other than that, I'm intrigued by this new Blondie album. Also, I'm curious to see what Face to Face will be putting out. The new REM is said to be a pretty rocking album. It would be great for them to return to their former form.

What's in your wish list for the new year or what have you heard?

Still waiting big-time on The King Blues new offering and intrigued too by Blondie (now that you've mentioned it). I want to have a listen soon to The Decemberists new album and . ...(more mainstream) - I'm expecting something big from the Foos, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Strokes and of course U2 in 2011.

      S'all good.

The Strokes is the big one for me, then Blink 182.

The Vaccines are meant to be bringing out a debut album in 2011 and there is a lot of talk about them, in high hopes.

Lately I've been much more into searching for old stuff I didn't know yet, than listening to new albums, but after this thread I am very much looking forward to Strokes and R.E.M. new albums, two bands I love and had no idea they were releasing new albums this year.

      Foo Fighters
received a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year for their last disc, Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace. So what will they do for an encore? Apparently, frontman Dave Grohl has decided to make the band's new disc a sort of Nirvana reunion, bringing in Nevermind producer Butch Vig and recruiting bassist Krist Novoselic to play on one track. Grohl has promised that the new album will be a pure rock effort. "In the 14 songs there's not one acoustic guitar," he told an interviewer.

      Red Hot Chili Peppers
We're used to long gaps between Red Hot Chili Peppers records, but it's been five years since Stadium Arcadium. Still, you can't accuse the L.A. group of being lazy: They had to find a new guitarist after John Frusciante left the band around 2008, eventually replacing him with Josh Klinghoffer. But the band have been steadily working on Stadium's follow-up, with a release date very tentatively set for summer.

Big loss with Frusciante leaving the band. Have meant to buy some of his albums, which are meant to be very good

very very good apparently. Too bad the man is so fu**ed up on drugs most of the time! A brilliant guitarist, one of the best of my generation I reckon. Don't think the Chilis will the same without him unfortunately :(

Ooh, I didn't know J. Mascis was releasing an album. Just read up, going to be an acoustic one and released on 15th March. I'll be getting that one. I was listening to the Dinosaur Jr album 'Bug' in my car on the way to work today, funnily enough. I LOVE the song, 'The Post' on that, it's one of those I can play over and ever.
