This is what the tweet said that I saw
Guardiola: "I made Lahm watch and analyse Flanagan's games for Liverpool this season, I think it has really improved Philipp's game"

Can't be true? Unless he wanted Lahm to be a lot more aggressive in his play then maybe but still.

      Jon Flanagan

      Pros:
      Positioning
      Quite quick
      Effective tackling
      Interceptions
      Reading of the game
Generally good at tracking his man

      Cons:
      Rash challenges
Can lose his man quite easily
      Forward passing accuracy
      Weak contributions to attack

All in all, I believe that those cons can be taught away, definitely.

We have a player on our hands. It's down to the staff to develop him correctly - I have full confidence in them to do just that.

Shows the pull our supporters have when we give a guy a nickname after someone and then they end up meeting them. Can we start calling me the aussie Scarlett Johanssen because I wouldn't mind a crack? :f_tongueincheek:

I absolutely can. Players like Baines or Shaw are on another level, for example. Not saying he is not a good player, he has proven he can play and deliver week in week out, but let's not make him seem bigger than he is. Only time will tell, since he is so young, but I wouldn't mind having a more experienced and skilled LB to compete with him.

this. i think i must be the only lfc that isnt impressed by him.

Of course but before that you must earn your stripes and therefore will be known as the following

      Level 1.....Aussie Sue Pollard

      Level 2..... Aussie Jo Brand

      Level 3......Aussie Mel C

      Level 4......Aussie Kathy Burke

      Level 5......Aussie Jackie Stallone

Then you will be known as the Aussie Scarlet Johansson

Dreadful today. Oh well, push forward next season, still has a lt of flaws to iron out.

Flannagan has had a good season I think.  Better than Johnson and Cissokho.  I'd hang onto him because we don't have fantastic fall backs right now.

Wasn't ready for the occasion, like most of the lads in the first half to be fair.

Flanno is not yet at the level needed. But he will learn unlike his partner on the other wing!

Damn well was when he had City, United, Spuds, Bitters and Arsenal in his pocket.

The thing with Flanno is that he may not give us all the attributes Brendan wants from a fullback/wingback who will start every week but what you do get is a very good defender who can fill in for injuries/suspensions on either side and who won't be overawed by the opposition.

That is a fantastic trait for a back up option to have and the quality we need from every member of the squad.

Fully agree with you he is an ideal back up as he learns his trade and in a few seasons you never know he could have that slot nailed down for himself.

Had a mare against Newcastle done enough for me to be a long standing back up to a world class alternative and hopefully develop into a player of that calibre himself.

Just been watching the first episode of Being: Liverpool, thought it'd be good to look at how far some of the lads have come (Flanagan, Wisdom, Sterling etc.) and in one training session Brendan says to Flanagan:
      Quote
"Just make sure you play to your strengths. Your strengths for me are simple, play behind the ball, win it, give it and get on with it. Your strengths are the reading of the game, stay behind the ball, you're not the one that's bombing on for fun like Cafu"

Just shows how much Brendan has adapted certain player's games and changed his own style of play from his first season. It's one of my favourite aspects of his style of management.

Injured apparently, wasn't fit enough for pre season matches prior to this one and think he got injured in training recently which put him out off the Milan game.

I hope Flanagan is our right back for many years. All he wants is to play for us and does everything to achieve that end. Getting the nod over supposedly better prospects, keeping his focus etc. Most importantly he is good enough!
