Flanagan set to pen new deal with Reds
Jon Flanagan has revealed he is close to signing a new long-term contract as the young defender looks to put a frustrating summer behind him. The 23 year old full-back has been forced to sit and watch the Red's opening two matches due to a knee injury.
BR is delivering on a promise to hand Flanagan a new deal now the youngster is on the comeback trail; Flanagan told the Echo ''there have been some talks and I should be signing a new contract soon, it would be a reward for all the hard work I have put in. All I've ever wanted to do is play for Liverpool and I want to stay here as long as I possibly can''.

that's good news because whatever he lacks  in quality he more than makes up for in work ethic.

Can't see him being back until December maybe, which is a f*cking shame, the back line is so much stronger with the lad in there despite his age.

Agree. I really love him, so unlucky lad. Get well soon Jon!

This is another example of players reputation growing when they aren't playing.

Now I rate Flanno, and love our local heart in the club but we shouldn't forget how often the stats says he gets beaten one on one (for a defender who defends) and that he got pulled off at half time and near a couple of times because he is still raw

As I say I rate him and look forward to him returning but let's not think he solves all our issues

I think the lad still has an awful lot to learn, and is nowhere near the player some are making him out to be.
He's not bad for his age, and will hopefully improve a lot, because if he wants to nail a fullback spot for himself, he'll need to.

      I agree mate

That's what I mean by an example of players being far better when they aren't in the starting line up.. There's numerous examples

Reading the Luis Suarez Autobiography and he thinks very highly of the lad's ability. Would love him at the moment at RB for the way in which he plays to rub off and gee the rest of the team up.

Miss seeing his tackles, this lad knows how to tackle old school!

Thanks for the reminder with the clips :)

As a few mention, he still has lots to learn. His 1v1 seems to be his weakness, but with experience and playing in his natural position, he'll become better at dealing with them . For me, his distribution and tackling are really exceptional. I actually think he's capable of playing tika taka.

      He's had knee surgery.
It was confirmed at the time he'd be out until December.

Why is this suddenly under scrutiny?
