Fair assessment and I agree Cafu Flanno would be better suited in a flat back four however Masch is used as a CB by Barca and  let's not forget one of the greatest CB's of all time Cannavaro, both considerably shorter than Flanno.

To be very honest I was under the impression that Flanagan was way shorter than he actually is! I just checked on wikipedia and it says that Jon is 1.81m! He is indeed taller than Cannavaro (1.76m) and Mascherano (1.71m), and not very far from our current RCB Emre Can (1.84m).

So I guess his height shouldn't be as much of a problem as I first thought, although ideally it would have been better if he was a bit taller.

Anyway, as I said before, I fully expect Flanno to be given chances in the future but probably so when we revert to 4 at the back.

No way in hell is Flanno 1.81m! He looks about 1.45m.

Flanno's main issue is his lack of immediate pace of he gets pressed and turned.
Other than that he is a very good back up fullback that has been excellent for us last season
Looking forward to his return. Can't put a price on the passion he delivers.

To be honest I don't think any of our defenders have much acceleration. Even Can who can cover ground pretty quickly is like a train, slow to get up to speed but tears away thereafter. Hopefully his spell on the sidelines has helped him read the game better. A bit like Sami Hyppia, he never had the pace but was always in the right place at the right time. If Flanno can do that he can become a very important player for us.

Agree about the passion too, I reckon if BR asked him to do a stint as Mighty Red Flanno would make us love him!

Huge blow for the lad and for us.

Bad news for Liverpool and for full back Jon Flanagan, who will need a second operation after picking up another knee injury.

That probably is it for him with us. I can't see us offering a particularly attractive contract extension if he won't be fit before he goes. Sad times :(

The lad does seem frail, his spirit cannot be faulted while the physical ingredient is found wanting.

Shame for the lad, I hope the club stick by him and give him a contract. Kelly managed to get over his injury problems and is having a good season at Palace so hopefully we will actually give Flanno the chance to get over them with us, could become a vital player if he manages to.

Well he won't be getting a new contract until he can prove his fitness, probably another Martin Kelly situation.

Confirmed out for at least six months.

I have a bad feeling Jon may never get back to proper fitness again.

That's two crocked full backs in our squad Flanno and Enrique.

So we need to add both a right full and left full to our growing list of "marquee" summer signings.
