      Your Number One Favorite Album.
      Mar 08, 2011 02:40:57 am
Apologies if there is a thread, I did a search but didn't find anything. Merge if needed :)

Anyways, we seem to have many threads about different music - albums you can listen to from start to finish, music that defined you, etc etc - but I wanted one where all you do is post your all-time favorite album. Just ONE. No "I love this one, and this one, oh and this one" - just the one album that if you could only listen to one album before you die, thats the one you'd pick. If you aint sure, don't post. I really am interested in seeing what people think as THE album for them is. The one that you love over all else. I think everyone who loves music, regardless of how much variety you have, should have one - or be able to think of one when you actually put your mind to it :) And if you want, post your favorite song from it as well.

I'll start it off with mine - Wolfmother, by Wolfmother. My favorite band, and their self-titled debut album is still one I can listen to from start to finish over and over and not get sick of it. I absolutely love it, and having seen them live twice so far, only strengthened that love. No doubt, this is my number one album.

And my favorite tune coincidentally is the first one of theirs I heard. Out at a random country pub at 1am drunk as f**k when I heard it - fell in love.

      Wolfmother - Mind's Eye

"Revolutionary Volume Two" by Immortal Technique.

This is the first track from the album called "The point of no return" although my personal favourite is "Industrial Revolution".

      Damn you!! ;D
If asked for my favourite artist I'd still struggle but Alice In Chains would probably shade it. However in terms of one complete album, I think I have to go for :

      Soundgarden - 'Superunknown'

He waved good-bye and jumped off the side of the stage. [...] Indifference with Ben Harper. Oh man, so he comes back out and tells everyone that Pearl Jam is the best band in the world. Loved that one, however their next album was complete muck and they ended up splitting up. Thought with the Fratellis we had a new band that were going to light up the music scene for years to come but sadly not. Although this is still one of my favourite albums of all time.

I could probably throiw a few Muse albums in there, a few KISS albums, a Kings of Leon album at a push.

F**king hell Bigv. That's one tough question as I'm sure your all like me and have a few albums that you absolutely love.

But after having a think there is one I keep coming back to and is my favourite album.

The Smiths The Queen Is Dead

I was a bit young when it was released, 8 years old, but got into the band later on through band such as Oasis.

This album is perfect from start to finish for me and has some of the bands best songs and my favourite from the album, although a bit obvious, is There Is a Light That Never Goes Out. But I do have a soft spot for Cemetry Gates as well.

Just got to a computer :)

This is actually a very hard decision to make. Even coming from my background as a DJ, with not just my musical taste and genre changing every week, but daily and even hourly!

I narrowed it down to 3 albums, as they mainly changed by musical taste more than any other and really defined a generation for not just me but millions. Second place was 'Because of the times' by KOL, but the winner has to be

The Strokes - Is This It. I decided to put up the lead single as it's probably the most well known and it's how I found the album.

      The Strokes - Last Nite

Thats what i wanted, get people thinking about really what the ultimate album is for them. It's hard, i could have had a few as well if given the choice but when push came to shove, that one i posted would take it every time.

And Racer, live album is perfectly fine :D If a greatest hits compilation is your favorite, thats fine as well. Just has to be the one CD/Album that does it for you.

      I could have almost guessed Ross's.. :D

Could have picked any one of 6-7 Maiden albums but Seventh Son of a Seventh Son for me, is the one that captures the most why Iron Maiden are in my opinion, the best band that has ever existed.

Iron Maiden - The Evil That Men Do

My favourite ever Maiden song probably.  But Seventh Son of a Seventh Son is epic personified.

What a shout! What a shout! There Is A Light That Never Goes Out is probably my all time favourite song. It is just an incredible album and certainly one of my favourites.

For me I have two favourites.

      and

Achtung Baby and A Rush Of Blood To The Head. The bands may be a bit obvious but these two albums are just from two bands at the top of their game. Achtung Baby is probably the greatest reinvention in music history in my view and A Rush Of Blood To The Head, despite being only Coldplay's 2nd always sounds fresh and new everytime I listen to it.

After much consideration , i'll go with this

Deloused In The Comatorium - The Mars Volta , truly epic album . I had the immense pleasure of seein live when they were touring this album and i was simply blown away . I got drunk as F**k and lost my friends and on the way out of the gig i was molested by a goth lookin bird with bright blue hair . She took me back to her shithole flat and had her way with me . Truly one of the best nights of my life  ;)

Nice. The first vinyls I owned as a kids were :
      'Bad' - Michael Jackson
      then...
      'Number of the Beast'
      'Powerslave'
'Seventh Son of a Seventh Son'
'Somewhere in Time' all by Iron Maiden.
I was obsessed with the album artwork as much as anything. In terms of songs, I loved 'Children of the Damned', although it was one of their slower tracks.

You couldn't have asked a tougher question, Dave.

great shouts, though. When Superunknown came out I had it in constant rotation. The Queen Is Dead could very well be in my Top 10 All-time. London Calling is awesome, though not even my favorite Clash album. Such is their power. And, that first Mars Volta was very welcome to hear after At the Drive-In broke up. Those first two tracks always give me goosebumps.

For me, it's going to have to be Rocket From The Crypt. The only question is which album?

Arrrrgh! This is torture. I'm tossing Scream, Dracula, Scream, RFTC & Group Sounds around in my head, but can't decide.

People taking the easy option. Had Rage Against The Machine on a lot this week and questioning my own choice. . . Nah. . . But definitely had ideas for a second favourite :)

So is this officially the which two albums do you love thread? Think it's time some of us threw in some more albums :)
Bigv will not be happy when he sees this page ;D

I'm such an indecisive person when it comes to stating favourite music though. In my opinion, it's probably the hardest thing in the world because I love so much diverse, different stuff. A thread like this will haunt me for a long time!!

Seen this thread loads of times and every time read a few posts with the intention of posting myself and every time that's as far as it goes with bands, singers, albums and various tracks coming to mind.
It is impossible to go for a "favourite" album more so when picking a favourite band or singer which is equally as difficult. When your musical experience spans four decades and for a plethora of reasons certain artists stand apart it could be a time consuming process.
I could list albums from the seventies till now, rather artists or bands and the relevant albums would be obvious to anyone familiar with the genre - Floyd, Led Zep, the Beatles, the Who, the Kinks, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Joan Armatrading, Joe Cocker, Otis Redding, Marvyn Gaye - I'd be here all day cos they are way back and I knew I would go on and on, favourite album? no way Jose.

I'm gonna have to remove myself from this. Like Stuey said, when your tastes span decades and genres it becomes an impossible task. I can't answer this question.

Trying to find a second favourite could turn into a top five albums. Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Metallica, Outkast, KanYe West. Look what you've started bigV. Arsehole. . . Faith No More. Okay that's it, number one was easy for me but now I feel compelled to put together a top ten.

It is a fair point Kenny and my choice might change from time to time but I tried to think what album I would like to have if I could only listen to one and The Queen Is Dead kept coming back into my head.

Love your choices by the way. Kasabian debut and Dark Side Of The Moon. Nice!!

London Calling is awesome, though not even my favorite Clash album. Such is their power.

What's your favorite then, BR? I love the other albums too but for its significance and how it influenced my musical taste I had to pick London Calling.

Today it's Plan B - The Defamation Of Strickland Banks which my lad bought me cos we have similar taste in music, then for some reason Beggers Banquet has come into the frame - a mate of mine gave me the cassette years ago and I swear I wore it out in a two year period of incessant playing.
The Plan B offering is a classic and grows and grows on you, the lead singer has a ridiculous amount of talent.

If someone wants to do a top 10 albums thread then go for it, I'll participate but to be honest, it doesn't make it a great deal easier for me. I've tried to compile my top 10 before for a Facebook group and almost as soon as I'd posted, I wanted to go back in and change some.
As for this thread, I'm trying hard to behave and just answer the question.

Oasis are my favourite band of all time so I'd have to go with this.

However my current favourite band are the courteeners.

Therefore my current favourite album is st jude. st jude is a great album for anybody into indie music. the courteeners are growing rapidly, just starting to get big now and in a couple of years i'll predict they will be massive. Have a gander!

The debut album just shades it for me, Diego. London Calling would be a close second with Give 'em Enough Rope following that.

Are you 'talking about the original U.K. version tho' BR?

To my mind the U.S. version of 'The Clash' was better than the U.K. original BR - the original wasn't, in my opinion, as good as 'London Calling': the U.S. version was.

Was not a fan of Be Here Now. Noel's biggest slump in Oasis (along with Heather Chemistry which bar the singles was just an album of fillers).

However I wouldn't argue with those saying What's The Story Morning Glory. I listened to it again a couple of weeks back and my god it still blitzes your ears. It just churns out hit after hit after hit after hit. Full on rock n roll brilliance. So iconic as well. Truly memorable.

Listened to the Be Here Now album before, still think it's boss. One of the things I love(d) about Oasis, is they usually got it right in terms of which songs to release. The only album they got it totally tits up with was Don't Believe The Truth. Mucky Fingers, Part Of The Queue and Guess God Thinks I'm Able are much better than the songs they released especially Lyla which is F***ing awful.

Lyla was catchy but ughh! as a single. It would have been good had it not been a single. But yeah it turned into a piss poor song. Their worst on that album. However The Importance of Being Idle was just boss though and is one of the most fantastic songs I've heard. Arguably Noel's best ever song. But yeah like you said they should have released those sings you mentioned. Overall it's a fine fine album.

I love Oasis and Be Here Now is still one of my favourites of theirs as it has some of my favourite Oasis songs on it.

D'You Know What I mean, Magic Pie, I Hope I Think I Know, All Around The World, Stand By Me, Fade In Out, and Don't Go Away.

Pretty good collection of songs if you ask me and still is a great album to listen to today.

What do people think of Standing on the Shoulders of Giants their 4th album from 11 years ago? I personally think it's a horrifically underrated album and has some great production on it. Gas Panic is unbelievable for starters. Yes it has Little James on it but overall it's a really good album. Over time it has garnered a much more favourable reception so thank goodness. Mark Stent who produced that album deserved to produce more with them. However one thing I will never get is why they did not get Steve Lilleywhite in to produce an Oasis record. Lilleywhite produced old U2, (as well as the majority of their How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb in 2004) as well as Beady Eye, The La's (one of the best albums you will buy) and so much more. Why Noel?

I like it but you won't hear me criticise Oasis too much as I love the band.

Roll It Over and Gas Panic are two of my favourite Oasis songs but I Can See A Liar is possibly the worst song they have put on any album in my opinion.

I have a soft spot for Little James. Lyrics are awful but I really like the overall feel of the song.

Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants is an ok album but it was when Oasis were changing too much. No Bonehead, no Guigsy. Just didn't sit right with me. Couple of boss songs on there though - Sunday Morning Call (vastly underrated) and Where Did It All Go Wrong? probably my fave two songs off the album.

Heathen Chemistry was when they'd settled back down to a regular list of band members rather than just guest musicians and I think it was a better album for it. Andy Bell and Gem Archer really got Oasis back to being close to their best though nothing will beat their early stuff.

God all this talk about SOTSOG has taken me down memory lane.  I remember being 15 and waiting for it to come out, i was a little too young for the hype of WTSMG so i was really excited about it.

I remember the hype when they released Go Let It Out, then i got the album.  I knew there and then it was awful.  A really really bad album IMO.  I read Rolling Stone or Q around the time and even Noel slagged it off (Especially I can see a liar)

What Oasis did was peak on their first two albums.  A few decent tunes since then but they never made another great album.  I do like Be Here Now but as a band album its not that good, I think Noel said he's produced better shits. Hahaha, love that about the guy.

Changes so often, right now it's Guns N Roses, Appetite for Destruction.  It last 54 minutes, which I then add November Rain (Use Your Illusion I)  to.  It then covers all my cardio workout.

"U2"-1987-The Joshua Tree. Pure class. Another one for the Irish out there has to be "Aslan's" "Goodbye Charlie Moonhead".
