They crowded up to Lenin with their noses worn off

I could post the whole song, but I'll just post my two favourite parts. Really is a beautiful song though.

"...Some guys they just give up living
And start dying little by little piece by piece
Some guys come home from work and wash up
Then go racin' in the street..."

"...She sits on the porch of her daddy's house
But all her pretty dreams are torn
She stares off alone into the night
With the eyes of one who hates for just being born..."

Funny mate I was looking at a few early Bruce ones to post the other night. Some of the writing is pure urban poetry.

Not my actual favourite lyrics but these are up there with the best of them even though there rather pervy but funny.

      Band: Supertramp
Album: Even in the Quietest Moments
      Track: Downstream

Love this period in Supertramps writing.
Downstream is one of my favorite tracks.
Here are the complete lyrics, and the line in bold is my favorite line.

      Took a boat Sunday
      Down by the sea
      It just felt so nice
      You and me
      We didn’t have a problem
      Or a care on earth
      And all around was silence
      Everywhere.
      You are the reason
      I was born

To be with you through all seasons
I'll always hear you when you call
We'll keep the love light shining
      Through each night and day
      A lonely life behind me
Oh what a change you've made.
So down here on the ocean
We will stay, We will stay, we will stay.
Been through a lot of changes
      Turned a lot of pages
When I took a boat on Sunday.
To know you as I know you now
      That is all I need
And we will get along somehow
      If we both believe.
So down here on the ocean
We will stay, we will stay, we will stay
Been through a lot of changes
      Turned a lot of pages
When I took a boat on Sunday.

Faith No More - Falling To Pieces

Back and forth, I sway with the wind
      Resolution slips away again
Right through my fingers, back into my heart
Where it's out of reach and it's in the dark
      Sometimes I think I'm blind
Or I may be just paralyzed
Because the plot thickens every day
And the pieces of my puzzle keep crumblin' away
      But I know, there's a picture beneath
      Indecision clouds my vision
      No one listens....
      Because I'm somewhere in between
      My love and my agony
You see, I'm somewhere in between
My life is falling to pieces
      Somebody put me together
Layin' face down on the ground
My fingers in my ears to block the sound
My eyes shut tight to avoid the sign
Anticipating the end, losing the will to fight
      Droplets of "yes" and "no"
      In an ocean of "maybe"
From the bottom, it looks like a steep incline
From the top, another downhill slope of mine
But I know, the equilibrium's there
      Indecision clouds my vision
      No one listens
      Because I'm somewhere in between
      My love and my agony
You see, I'm somewhere in between
My life is falling to pieces
      Somebody put me together

      there was nobody out there
no one who quite understood me
      I glanced to the side

      patiently holding my hand

Listening to Glass of Water by Coldplay.

'Television selling plastic figurines of "leaders" saying nothing at all.'

What a f**king cracking lyric that is. So far removed from 'Para para paradise' eh (bunch of criminals are Coldplay for hiding away their best songs).

Couldn't have bracketed the likes of Obama, Cameron, Blair et all in a better sentence. The media savvy politician is a very dangerous one!

      Brilliant song that:

      Oh, son, don't ask
Neither how full nor empty is your glass
      Cling to the mast
Spend your whole life living in the past

It's not my favourite by any means....  But I love the lyrics....

Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip – Thou Shalt Always Kill

Thou shalt not steal if there is a direct victim
Thou shalt not worship pop idols
      Or follow lost prophets
Thou shalt not take the names of Johnny Cash, Joe Strummer, John Hartmond, Desmond Dekker, Jim Morrisson, Jimi Hendrix or Syd Barrett in vain

Thou shalt not think any male over the age of 30 that plays with a child that is not their own is a paedophile, some people are just nice

      Thou shalt not read NME
Thou shalt not stop liking a band just because they became popular
Thou shalt not question Stephen Fry
Thou shalt not judge a book by its cover
Thou shalt not judge lethal weapon by Danny Glover

Thou shalt not buy Coca Cola products

Thou shalt not go into the woods with your boyfriends best friend, take drugs, and then cheat on him
Thou shalt not fall in love so easily

Thou shalt not use poetry, art or music to get into girls pants...
...use it to get into their heads

      Thou shalt not watch Hollyoaks
Thou shalt not attend an open mic and leave as soon as you've done your shitty little poem or song, you self-righteous pr**k
Thou shalt not return to the same club or bar, week in, week out Because you once saw a girl there that you fancied that you're never gonna F***ing talk to

Thou shalt not put musicians and recording artists on ridiculous pedestals no matter how great they are, or were
The Beatles were just a band
      Led Zeppelin, just a band
The Beach Boys, just a band..
The Sex Pistols, just a band

"The next big thing", just a band

Thou shalt give equal worth to tragedies that occur in non-english speaking countries as to those that occur in english speaking countries

Thou shalt remember that guns, bitches and bling were never part of the 4 elements and never will be

Thou shalt not make repetitive, generic music
Thou shalt not make repetitive, generic music

Thou shalt not Pimp My Ride
Thou shalt not scream if you wanna go faster
Thou shalt not move to the sound of the wickedness
Thou shalt not make some noise for Detroit
When I say "Hey", thou shalt not say "Ho"
When I say "Hip", thou shalt not say "Hop"
When I say, he say, she say, we say; "Make some noise.", kill me

"Ah, I've forgot were I was, hang on..."

Thou shalt not quote me happy
Thou shalt not shake it like a polaroid picture
Thou shalt not wish your girlfriend was a freak, like me
Thou shalt spell the word "Pheonix"

Those lyrics are based in one of the most brilliant books I've ever read, The Grapes of Wrath.

Bruce Springsteen - The Ghost of Tom Joad

      The highway is alive tonight
      Where it's headed everybody knows
I'm sittin' down here in the campfire light
Waitin' on the ghost of Tom Joad

Now Tom said "Ma, wherever there's a cop beatin' a guy
Wherever a hungry newborn baby cries
Where there's a fight against the blood and hatred in the air
Look for me, Ma, I'll be there
Wherever there's somebody fightin' for a place to stand
Or a decent job or a helpin' hand
Wherever somebody's strugglin' to be free
Look in their eyes, Ma, you'll see me."

I could put so many Bruce lyrics in this thread...

      THE RIVER

I come from down in the valley
      where mister when you're young
They bring you up to do like your daddy done
Me and Mary we met in high school
      when she was just seventeen
We'd ride out of this valley down to where the fields were green

We'd go down to the river
And into the river we'd dive
Oh down to the river we'd ride

      Then I got Mary pregnant
and man that was all she wrote
And for my nineteenth birthday I got a union card and a wedding coat
We went down to the courthouse
and the judge put it all to rest
No wedding day smiles no walk down the aisle
      No flowers no wedding dress

That night we went down to the river
And into the river we'd dive
Oh down to the river we did ride

I got a job working construction for the Johnstown Company
But lately there ain't been much work on account of the economy
Now all them things that seemed so important
Well mister they vanished right into the air
Now I just act like I don't remember
Mary acts like she don't care

But I remember us riding in my brother's car
Her body tan and wet down at the reservoir
At night on them banks I'd lie awake
And pull her close just to feel each breath she'd take
Now those memories come back to haunt me
they haunt me like a curse
Is a dream a lie if it don't come true
      Or is it something worse
that sends me down to the river
though I know the river is dry
That sends me down to the river tonight
      Down to the river
      my baby and I
Oh down to the river we ride

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band - Live in NYC - The River

This is so sad and beautiful... and you can easily reflect them to so many real stories... which I think is one of Bruce's main talents...
