      Anyone watch this?

Watching the first episode of season 1 and it's so far so good. Both Sheldon and Leonard are really funny but Sheldon is just damn retarded.

No one from any show is gonna beat Barney Stinson, though.

Yeah, I've regularly watched it. Am getting a bit bored with it by now after 4 seasons, but still love Sheldon as a character. And Kaley Cuoco is hot!

Sheldon is really retarded. I've only watched till episode 2 of Season 1 (slowly but steady due to the fact I'm also watching Simpsons, How I Met Your Mother, CSI Miami and My Wife and Kids).

I watch it almost in a daily basis, repeated episodes included, cause it's on Warner Channel all the time here. I think it's very good, but almost exclusively because of Sheldon. Leonard is terribly boring and so not funny, their other friends have their moments but overall are just decent, too repetitive. Sheldon, and later his "girlfriend", are the the ones who really make me laugh. I thought it was well deserved when the actor who plays Sheldon won the Emmy.

I really liked it up to the later seasons , being a science nerd I was really happy to see scientists in the entertainment media even though it's not that scientific. The show is really funny , I like Sheldon and Amy the best ! But as I started to look deeper into it I saw that they were showing a negative portrayal of the female roles. All the women in the show are dependent on some male character, the only one who wasn't was Leslie Winkle ( but the writers cut her character off the show because they couldn't "write for her" . Hmmmm an independent smart female, they couldn't let that happen) The niceness to which they are treated is based on a hierarchy of their looks. For example ,poor Amy gets treated like sh*t and seems to accept it from the other characters , even her 'boyfriend' . And it shows the double standard of society but does not criticize them. Even though Amy is so accomplished in her field she still get the worst treatment amongst the other character because of her looks.

I would have to agree. Admittedly some of the characters in The Big Bang Theory are well made but don't spoil it all by constant interruptions from the laughter track towards a painfully unfunny joke. And then there's the standard American sitcom trick of 'include a blonde bimbo (or bimbos) in proceedings even though she's got the comic appeal of a fire breaking out at an orphanage.

American live action sitcoms have always come off as naff to me. Everything about the characters lives whether its Friends, The Big Bang Theory or that god awful How I Met Your Mother are presented as so pristine and perfect, living in their big flats despite none of them seemingly having the ability to find a job. Give me Del and Rodney striving about trying to make a decent living out of faulty goods or Steptoe and Son's rag and bone existence. Give me Basil Fawlty's crescendos of farce or Alan Partridge's cring inducing antics! I guess its all cultural though. British comedy is largely all centred around self deprecation and seething criticism. I just prefer it that way! And yet the best comedy I've ever seen is The Simpsons (from the 90s). I don't think any show has reached the levels of wit and subtle but stinging satire in the way The Simpsons were. It's incredible in its achievement that it inspired new comic shows all over from South Park to Father Ted.

The show wasn't too bad until they all ended up in relationships when the show turn from them being nerds dealing with nerdy situations to same old couple relationships you see on every show.

True there has to be some development to the characters as they get older but from TV standpoint much like a lot of sitcom shows they should of called it quits after 4 season, much like American version of the Office where you notice after 5 seasons it really take a downward slope.

Used to love this but as with many things in TV, movies, music or video games, it's being milked to death. It's the new Friends, the go-to time-filler to pad out a limited channel such as E4.

Penny has fast become one of the most irritating characters on TV. In the older episodes, Sheldon used to poke fun at her background, "career" and the fact that she struggled to understand their intellectual debates and it used to be amusing, especially as Penny would often respond with a saving retort, highlighting Sheldon's detachment from the "real world" and his robot-like approach to life.
Now she may as well walk on to the set every 5 minutes and shout, "I'm a dumb slut!"

I'd like to suggest I'm more disappointed to see her devolve to just this 1.15:

Quantity over quality seems the norm in America. They often joke about the short lifespan of British tv shows but I much rather prefer it our way. Keeps up the long time variety in the tv schedules as well.
