      How fast is your computer?
      May 27, 2011 01:41:23 pm
      Inspired by the Overclocking thread.

Results using Geekbench (which can be downloaded here - http://www.primatelabs.ca/geekbench/download/)

My workhorse (which is a 3 year old iMac) scores 3714.  Latest models are up at about 10,000 but not sure I need to upgrade yet.

Great score for a home built machine that.

You can also compare with similar systems on that site.

Good idea for a thread JD, maybe this thread could be used for tips on how to improve performance too, my Toshiba Satellite is a decent enough spec but has a really lame battery life and average speed, will test it later though ^

I think I may replace it for a iMac when the time comes as I have always had PC's and always had problems!

Bit of everything mate. Editing, gaming, browsing. Just a general use system.

I definitely need to upgrade to 64-bit though, because it's only registering 3.49GB of my 4GB RAM.

EDIT: Just ran it again and got 9670.

The first time I did, but the second time I deliberately left everything open.

      Intriguing.

      Indeed.

The first time I actually left some stuff open, then the 2nd time I didn't, and my 2nd time was better.

      The mystery..

Nice program that. Scored 4355. Few years old now, and I haven't upgraded since I bought it. Actually a Dell machine, cos they don't cost a lot if you get the right deal. I mainly wanted it for gaming and watching shows and movies, which is why I chose the machine with a 1.4TB harddrive and then got a lovely 1600x900 HP monitor.

In fairness the laptop is sh*te now, considering getting one of those 64 bit all in ones. Something like this - http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/acer-aspire-z5761-23-all-in-one-pc-09885804-pdt.html

      Not worth it.

For that price you could build your own top-of-the-range gaming PC - easily.

Not tech savvy enough to do it. To be honest I just use my computer for word/excel/internet and stuff like that. Not that big into pc gaming to be honest.

Hey lads beat this.. 624! That's right!  :(

Try playing Football Manager on my laptop and you'll find my old dell just turns itself off after overheating. Don't know how to improve it or what I could buy to make it quicker.

My old HP Compaq used to do that. Matter of wear and tear.

How on earth do you get 2.87GB of RAM??

I just checked that and the device manager states the memory is 4.00GB which sounds right, can't complain too much about this one though as we bought it from PC world who priced it up £50 LESS than the model below it!

I tried to build a PC myself at college actually, used some cheap parts from one of those "we buy your crap" shops and managed to get it running Windows 98 at a decent speed using a old 486 processor (anyone remember them) complete with the essential cooling fan!  The only real problem I had was probably with the monitor which had a permanent green tint, but being a poor student you get used to it!
