It is perverse that people are unwilling it appears to change an opinion and give the lad credit for getting his head down and no matter how you see it, improving his game.

Even City supporters seem to be unanimous in their praise of Henderson. They would take him instantly over Fernandinho and Fernando to partner Toure in midfield. And that's not off the back of one performance either. He has steadily improved over the last 24 months to become one of the PL's best midfielders.

To be fair, Fernandinho and Fernando aren't that great.

Though, your point stands, Hendo would get into every team in the country. He is the type of player the mancs absolutely need more than any other. As pointed out, he walks (well its hard to tell whether he's walking or jogging - he has an odd gait  ) into City's midfield. Much better than Ramires and John Obi Wan Kenobi Mikel (though he wouldn't displace the two man midfield of Matic and Fabregas). He's better than Flamini Coquelin, Wilshere, Arteta and Rosicky as well, and Spurs tend to play cardboard cut-outs instead of midfielders.

Kenny saw his potential & now we are receiving the benefits.

Grown as a player & one that will great better with time.

Tbh Kenny did nothing but harm him by playing him out of position most of the time.

Don't think you'd be able to name may CMs better in the Prem than him, although I'm sure some will try.

Got to admire his complete determination, drive and fight for Liverpool - going to be an excellent replacement (captain wise) for Gerrard.

If you remember when we first signed him he struggled with even 10-15 yard passes, now his game is improving significantly. Slightly different player to Stevie but he is getting better and better!

You're not wrong about any of this.  Henderson is a hard worker, the hardest worker on the team now that Suarez is gone.  but as a footballer he is barely above average, and that's being kind.  He's definitely no better than Meireles, who was hounded out for not being good enough, allegedly.

But apparently as long as you're not a shithouse it's okay to be mediocre.

Yeah it was a good performance tonight, good to see as we're going to need him on top form for the run-in as it couldn't really be any tighter.

Improving with every game Hendo, i have to say and admit i was so wrong when i said Skrtel deserved to be captain before him. Great decision from Brendan giving him the armband, the lad deserves it and plays like he's been here forever.

No one is "bashing" him.  Some just don't rate him.  He's been doing better as of late.  But I still think Can has the potential to be 10x the player Henderson is.  Developing him in midfield should be our priority.

Growing all the time isn't he, I wondered whether he was up to the captaincy but he is leading by example and you have to hand it to him, that was a Gerrardesque performance tonight, a great goal, a good assist and we saw some fantastic raking passes straight into the path of on rushing runners.

His best game of the season, he was world class.

Can't believe I ever doubted his ability as captain - he looks a natural born leader with Gerrard's absence.

Does that extra responsibility as captain make him take more responsibility on the field with the confidence the armband gives?
