Ki Sung-Yeung 'lined up by Liverpool' as Charlie Adam transfer stalls

      18th June, 2011

Celtic midfielder Ki Sung-Yeung has emerged as a surprise transfer target for Liverpool, as doubts about Charlie Adam's move to Anfield grow.

Blackpool hope to secure a £10 million fee for the ex-Rangers midfielder, as they believe interest from Spurs, Aston Villa and Manchester United will spark a bidding war for the 25-year-old.

Liverpool are now putting a contingency plan in place and, according to talkSPORT, it is likely to involve 22-year-old Ki.

The South Korea international, who scored the first goal in Celtic's 3-0 Scottish Cup final victory over Motherwell, is thought to be an important figure in Bhoys boss Neil Lennon's plans for next season.

However, Celtic would struggle to resist a big offer from an English club and Liverpool may find it easier to land Ki than Adam.

      Erm wow, out of nowhere

Personally I don't rate him that highly and I've seen lots of him. Good player but nowhere near good enough for me.

If we signing anyone from Celtic it should be Kayal and/or Izaguirre.

I saw him play (on tv) the last old firm derby and he looked decent. He is young so could improve so if the price was right perhaps but....I want to see us purchase some 'trophy' players to bolster the youth policy.

We need to make a statement this transfer window so spend our money on  Sanchez or the like.

Could be a useful squad player, selling shirts would be a plus too.

To be honest, Adam was on the Rangers' bench when he was at the same age as Ki Sung-Yong ...

That is relevant to the current Celtic team and Ki Sung-Yeung because...?

Because Ki Sung-Yeung is a regular on the Celtic team at the age of 22 ... At the same age, Charlie Adam was a bench warmer at Rangers ... Here is what I was replying to:

I know full well what and who you were replying to. You are talking about 2 entirely different teams so the positions of those 2 players within those teams at a particular age says nothing about their footballing abilities or future potential.

Calm down Rep, Mac_red made a good point there.

Corbally_red brought up Adam and this guy could turn out to be a lot better than Adam

Exactly ... Comparing Ki Sung-Yong and Charlie Adam at this particular moment is irrelevant, since the players are on a completely different stage of their respective careers ...

Calm down? I'm not wound up in the slightest. I'm trying to understand how that could be, as you put it, a good point. If Adam and Sung-Yeung were both at the same club now, at the same age, vying foir the same position and the latter was playing regularly then yes, I could see how that would suggest he is the better player (in the eyes of that manager at least).
To say that at a given age, at a completely different club, in a completely different team, under a different manager, one player is playing on a more rergular basis is completely irrelevant.
That's without going into the fact that different players peak at different ages.

Accurately, no, you can't. I think that is pretty obvious. That doesn't make the statement any less baffling or irrelevant in response to Corbally's post.

But corbally's post was the one that brought in Adam...? Why didn't you take him to task? Just because Mac_Red has a reputation as an argumentative, hair-splitting irritant (no offence ;)) doesn't mean he can't make a good point now and then

I'm pretty sure the inference from Corbally was that the signing of one of the two players would mean that the other would probably not be signed, in which case, he would prefer Adam (though he's not a fan).
Mac_Red is a cock but it was the post I was commenting on, not the poster.

And Mac_Red was suggesting that this Korean has the potential to be better than Adam, even if Adam is the better player now... whatever, I'm really not arsed :)

He has. There is also potential for him to fail miserably. That wasn't the issue though, it was the bizarre comparison of their respective positions in different squads at a different time used to reinforce the opinion.

Well, since you are being a pussy, we should get along just fine ...  ;)

Anyway, back on topic ... Even though Ki Sung-Yong is a talented kid, we don't really need this type of a player at the moment ... A combative defensive midfielder of the same age would be preferable, to replace Poulsen, and provide backup and competition for Lucas ...
