Newspapers - A thing of the past?
      Jun 19, 2011 10:12:45 am
Bit of a random question but I was just wondering how many of you still buy newspapers on a regular basis and why?

Personally I used to buy one every working day and take it to work but now I'm in a job where I have internet access (and don't technically have a lunch break), I don't really see any need to buy them. I pay for boadband at home every month and all the information I could possibly want is online or on the 24hr news channels now, without me having to buy a newspaper that, in reality, tells me yesterday's news.

I was in the barbers yesteday and picked up a copy of The Mirror and flicking through the sports pages, it all seemed like old news because I'd read it online. That's what led me to this quation.

Our access to the newspapers is different as the U.K. papers aren't readily available here and are also 2.20€ a pop !

Bev reads the papers on line especially on sunday but I can't be arsed to be honest as Rep say's anything you need to know is readily available via the internet, BUT that said I do miss the little stories that don't often get reported via the net and the odd funny joke and as daft as it sounds the adverts for special offers and the like !

The papers do sort of cater for every taste, whereas the Net is dedicated to seperate sites for specific subjects the papers on line for me just isn't RIGHT !

it's either a PAPER or the NET, I wouldn't say I couldn't do without a paper but they do make a change !

I buy the Echo when in Liverpool every few days. Part of the reason behind that is I only moved their last September and I find that it helps me to get to know the city better. I also sometimes buy one when I am working.

Few years ago I would always get the weekend editions of a paper over here, they had some great articles about traveling, some interesting facts about countries and things like that, but after I got my net connection at home I stopped. All I had to do was Google the name of the country and that was it. I honestly can't remember when was the last time I've bought a newspaper. Still have some of those articles in the house thou, for some reason.

Stopped years ago.  Mainly because I got fed up of reading opinion, not news.

      Not yet.

A newspaper is the only accompaniment needed when heading to the shi**er.

This. Whether it's current affairs, sport, music, film or tv I get fed up of w**ker journalists telling us what's right, what's wrong, what's bad and what's good. I'll make my own mind up and won't be influenced by any wanky journalist in the news or the arts who think they're opinion stands taller than that of the average man.

Think they're handy when you're foreign and want to get some bit of news as you've no internet. Haven't been abroad in a few years tho! :D The last 2 years I only associate buying a paper with being hungover! :D

Local papers still serve a valuable service I think, like death notices, sport listings, community notices and job advertisements. Also a very easy way to get your name in the paper if you want ;D

Haven't bought a newspaper for a good few years now, but I always look at the headlines when I'm out shopping or pick up the paper at the gym, just to see how crap they really are.

Occasionally I used to pick up the Independent of a weekend if I was working. Use it as a way to switch off on my break, found it quite a good read too but, expensive at the weekend and as has been said, you can find the news on the net. Been buying 'i' the past few weeks and pick a copy of it up a lot more often than I have done any paper for a long time. Quite like it tbh and the 20p price tag makes me buy it more often too.

I actually find reading a newspaper more relaxing than reading stuff on a computer.

Haven't bought a red top or read one, for longer than I can remember though.

At least if you read the paper in the can and you really hate what you're reading you can wipe your arse on it.

Beg to differ - newspapers aren't very absorbant.
