Malaysia XI 3-6 Liverpool: Post match thoughts.
      Jul 14, 2011 10:02:40 pm

Liverpool will head to Malaysia for the second game of their Asia pre-season tour - sponsored by Standard Chartered - with a game against a Malaysia XI.

Organised by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur will host the match with kick-off at 5.45pm local time (10.45am BST).

The Reds enjoy fantastic support in Asia and this summer's visit follows the hugely successful 10-day pre-season tour of Thailand and Singapore two years ago.

"The match will be a piece of football history as this is the first time Liverpool FC will be stepping on Malaysian soil and it has created a lot of excitement," said Julian Kam, CEO of ProEvents, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary in Malaysia this year. "The Reds have a massive base of football fans in Malaysia.

"We have scheduled the game on a Saturday with kick-off at 5.45pm so everyone can come and watch."

LFC manager Kenny Dalglish said: "I'm looking forward to taking the team to Asia. It is great that we can give our supporters in Malaysia and China the chance to watch the team play. Our last tour of Asia in 2009 was a great success and we're delighted to be returning this summer."

Osman Morad, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank (Malaysia) Berhad, added: "Liverpool FC has a huge fan base in Malaysia; all very loyal supporters impatiently counting the days to see the Reds in action on our own shores.

"Standard Chartered is therefore delighted to sponsor this tour. We like to give back to the communities we operate in, and bringing Liverpool FC to Malaysia is in that spirit. Together with our employees, clients and Malaysian fans, we look forward to welcoming LFC with true Malaysian hospitality."

      National Stadium, Bukit Jalil
Bukit Jalil National Stadium (Malay: Stadium Nasional Bukit Jalil) in Bukit Jalil, located in the National Sports Complex to the south of the capital city of Malaysia Kuala Lumpur, is a 87,411 capacity all-seater, multi-purpose stadium that was built in 1998 to host the 1998 Commonwealth Games. It also served as the main stadium of the 2001 Southeast Asian Games. The Bukit Jalil's capacity makes it the 25th largest stadium in the world and the 9th largest football stadium in the world. It is also the second largest stadium in Southeast Asia behind Gelora Bung Karno Stadium. It was built by United Engineers Malaysia, Bhd, and completed three months ahead of schedule. Designed to host a multitude of events, the National Stadium is the central and most prominent sports venue at the 1.2 km² National Sports Complex in Bukit Jalil.

The stadium is considered the best stadium in Malaysia and is home of the Malaysian national football team. Initially built for the 1998 Commonwealth Games, when it hosted the opening/closing ceremonies and the athletics competitions, the stadium is now used for a variety of events, most recently being one of the venues for the AFC Asian Cup 2007. There were many other sports venues that were built for the Commonwealth Games, such as Bukit Kiara Sports Complex and the National Sports Complex, Malaysia.

Malaysia's previous national stadium was the Merdeka Stadium before the Bukit Jalil sports complex was constructed. Malaysia also uses other stadiums for their football matches such as KLFA Stadium, MBPJ Stadium and the Shah Alam Stadium.

Sat morning kick off - boss  :gt-happyup:

I would imagine it will be similar to the game the other day, with the majority of the squad getting a run out.

Looking forward to it and hope we score as many goals as we did the other day and not concede as many.

Just wanna get out there and watch the lads play. Also hope to be seated with some fans who actually sing because my cousins and I tried to yesterday but everyone around us were sh*te. Definitely don't know the lyrics. There was a group on the left side that were boss, though, started the songs. I also have to say that I think the lack of response from the Malaysians were probably because they don't understand Kenny, Phil or Ian Rush due to their strong accents! (Even I find them difficult myself and I'm English educated!)

Also hope to actually beat Arsenal's score against Malaysia

I know Johnson came and is a little injured but I don't recall seeing Pacheco last night.

^^^^ They are Southeast Asian Champions from last year AFF Suzuki Cup. From what I saw when they played against my home country (Singapore), they have fast forwards and look quick on counter attack. They have a good coach. At least in my opinion, but probably much, much, much, much, worst than Kenny and his team!

Should be a good game... Malaysia are a decent side and probably better than Guangdong Sunray Cave.
Adrian you should be pinging balls in your Alonso-esque position! ;) Adrian-esque!

Haha yeah, I guess! I get called Messi, Fabregas, Alonso or Xavi pretty often. There's a South American guy in Lancaster whom I play with who says I play like Barcelona so it was really nice to hear that and he keeps selecting me first to join his team!!

Thanks, Kate. I hope you'll enjoy it on TV. I hope the Malaysian fans don't disappoint me because I genuinely expect a better atmosphere than what I've seen at Arsenal, Chelsea and Man United.
