We've been expecting a dedicated, recognised winger for years, I see little reason for that to change.

Although it didnt work for us in the end. Still wish you all the best downing. Just make sure that your team doesnt end above over us in the end

Jesus lad, use your F***ing eyes, did he not play out there last season. Yes! Whether Brendan chooses to play him behind the striker is a decision for Rodgers to make, but the point still stands, he can still play out there.

How do they get experience then? He's already shown he's prepared to use younger players, so Ibe will get some games this year and if Alberto lacks experience, why the F**k did we buy him?

Sitting in the hospital waiting for a lift and saw the above!!
Heard on the radio that Newcaste were taking him off our hands for 5m, a 15m loss in terms of what we paid for him.
What part of that makes good business sense?

well, it is a simple question, is downing good enough for our first 11? the answer is no

the bad business decision was made when kenny and comoli bought this chap. we we now have done is sold him for what he is worth now and also saved 3m+ on wages

we can hopefully being in a better player provided they are willing to play for us and not reject us like the others have

Over-inflated fee wasn't his fault.

Some of the worst performances ever seen in a red shirt in his first season here, were.

Last 6 months, he picked it up and purely based on that I would have kept him for this season anyways as a squad player. That said the 18 months previous meant he was sold, and I won't cry over that.

In fairness, only spoke well about the club and people that work there only speak highly of his persona.

Stewart Downing: Really good lad, but a poor footballer. Wasn't his fault he was bought at a ridiculous fee and given a ridiculous wage. But worse than the money issue, the most glaring and damning thing about the entire transfer was that we were ever in for him in the first place. A lot of people knew it was a poor transfer and a terrible target from the moment we were linked with him. Downing never was and never will be the type of wide player for a team aiming for a CL place.

I wish him all the best at West Ham though. He'll do pretty decent there given the level and style of play.

I can see him scoring in his debut for West Ham, just to piss me off.

Better footballer than he showed for us I feel but was never going to win over everyone with his displays.

The fee and wages were never his fault but he did look like a guy who could never live up to it and the expectation always seemed to weigh a bit heavy on him.

Bit strange he got so much game time though this pre season if Brendan had him in mind to ship out as I did think that by playing him quite a bit he seen him somewhere in the squad.
