Valerenga 3:3 Liverpool - Pre, in Match and Post Thread.
      Jul 25, 2011 04:56:29 pm

Liverpool have announced they are to play a pre-season friendly against Valerenga in Norway this summer.

The game will be played in the national Ullevaal Stadium at 6pm (UK time) on August 1.

Liverpool last played Valerenga in 2008, prevailing 4-1 in a pre-season friendly.

The club's manager, Martin Andresen, said: "Even though it is a friendly match, it is an important match for Valerenga. We get a good test against an opponent that plays in one of the best leagues in the world, and that will help develop Valerenga further.

"We are very happy with this game and we're looking forward to playing in a sold-out stadium."

Liverpool FC: Reds to fulfil Norway fixture despite terror attacks

LIVERPOOL are to fulfil next Monday’s friendly in Oslo in the wake of the terrorist attacks which have rocked Norway.

The Reds enjoy huge support in the Scandinavian country and a sell-out crowd of 25,000 is expected for the clash with Valerenga at the Ullevaal Stadium.

One of Friday’s two attacks saw a bomb go off outside government buildings in the capital – three miles from where the match will be held.

Liverpool are continuing to monitor the situation but as it stands there is no talk of postponing the trip.

An Anfield spokesman said: “At this stage there is nothing to indicate the game will not go ahead.”

Kenny Dalglish’s players wore black armbands in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Hull City in respect for those killed.

Reds managing director Ian Ayre said: “Everyone at the football club was shocked to hear the news and see the television pictures coming out of Norway.

“Some of our most passionate fans are Norwegian and we count them as friends as well as supporters.

“The team is due to play in Norway on August 1. Ahead of that, we want our fans to know we are thinking of them at this terrible time.”

Meanwhile, Stewart Downing is confident he will strike up a good understanding with striker Andy Carroll.

The ÂŁ20million winger was delighted to make his Reds debut in the second half at Hull on Saturday and insisted the scoreline was irrelevant.

“It’s been a long time coming and it felt great to get out there and kick a ball for Liverpool,” he said.

“It will take time for us to gel and that’s what pre-season games are for.

“I felt good and managed to get some crosses in. I know Andy from England and think we can get a partnership going.

“But I know I might be asked to play a bit differently than I did at other clubs and as a group it’s natural we’re learning how each other plays.”

Downing went close to reducing the deficit but was denied by a fine save from Hull’s Adriano Basso.

“It could have been a dream debut,” he added. “I thought it was in to be honest but it was a great save from the keeper.

“We created a lot of chances but just didn’t put them away. Hopefully we’re saving that for the season. It was a disappointing result but pre-season is all about fitness.

“I’ve enjoyed it up to now. This is a top football club and I’m getting looked after very well. Hopefully I can make an impact and do my best.”

Fellow new boy Jordan Henderson also took his Reds bow at the KC Stadium after sitting out the tour of the Far East.

“I feel part of it now,” he said. “It was a little bit frustrating watching them on the telly but it was good to have a rest.

“It wasn’t a good result but that’s what pre-season is about and we’ll learn from our mistakes. I think I’ve settled in well.”

Well it is Friday now, we have until Monday to pull our finger out and start playing some decent football.

We are 4/6 on to win this and Valerenga are 4/1. Worth a punt?

Fortunately they play in Blue, so the "White" strip can stay locked away.

Full team or dead wood, only Kenny knows... Guess what, I'm working. A blessing in disguise?  :f_tongueincheek:

Expecting us to make a statement in this match after the last two shambolic performances.

Expecting at least 60 minutes for the likes of Adam, Henderson, Downing, Pepe, possibly Johnson & Agger as well.

Hoping Caroll gets on the score sheet as well to silence some of the knee-jerks for a week or two.

It seems like friendly matches are totally useless for us. We have so many partnerships to make (Dawning-Carroll, Adam-Henderson etc), but instead of it we play with the second or even third squad. If Kenny will decide to repeat it on sunday, I would be frustrated not to see a decent starting XI.

We need whatever the management team decide we need from this game.  Who are we to judge or argue that we know better than Kenny and Co.

We may get more of our best players playing, we may not see them till half time or we may see them for the first half.

Again, I think we are heading for a discrepancy between expectation and reality for this FRIENDLY game.

Would love to see this team:

                                      Reina

                       Carragher           Skrtel
      Kelly                                            Johnson

                     Aquilani             Adam

      Henderson               Kuyt           Downing

                               Carroll

It would be good to see a decent team put out from the start grab a few goals esp. Carroll for his confidence and then thrown on the youngsters and the players "for sale", much easier for them to do well when we are winning by a few goals.

It's their mid-season now and after 16 weeks with one game in hand they're 10th with 21 points (6 W, 3 D and 6 L). Molde are their league (Tippeligaen) leader with 32 pts after 16 plays.

Their coach is Martin Andresen and last season they become runner up.

I think Kenny should be thinking about who his starting Defenders for the coming season will be. A clean sheet would be great.

To be honest, as long as we get a couple of goals and keep a clean sheet, i will be happy. 2-0 result or ore would be perfect for me, the defense need to build up there confidence again, also i would like to see Kenny put out a strong 11 throughout the game for at least 60 minutes.

Starting line up may look something like this - going off the players who played for an extended part of the Galatasaray match.

      Reina
      Carragher
      Agger
      Johnson
      Skrtel
      Adam
      Henderson
      Downing

I think Maxi and Raul might be playing for their places, dont think they'll start as many games this season.

Who would you play ahead of Merieles in that team?

Think as it stands for me it's Downing Lucas Adam and Henderson as the first names on the team sheet the rest will have to fight. That said we can change formation and play five across the middle depending on tactics etc.
