      Football movies
      Sep 10, 2011 08:03:07 am
I've always been a fan of football movies like the "Goal" franchise, and wanted people to make suggestions for more ones and hopefully can get some sort of list going. Not just movies like goal I wouldn't mind movies like Green street hooligans where it revolves around football in a way.

      Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Two movies I could think of:

      1) Fifteen minutes that shook the world
A comic take on what might have happened in the dressing room during our epic night at Istanbul.
      2) That Damned United
It is about Clough's reign at Leeds.

Christ Green Street is a terrible film. Was on ITV yesterday. The leader of West Ham firm has the worst cockney accent I've ever heard. Terrible acting.

Off the top of my head

      ID
      Football Factory
The Firm(Not the Tom Cruise one, Gary Oldman stars)
      When Saturday Comes
      Escape To Victory
A Shot At Glory (Robert Duvall, Michael Keaton and Ally McCoist star, Duvall kind of based his character on a mix of Shankly and Jock Stein)
      Mike Bassett: England Manager
      Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait

My favorite football movie is quite possibly Das Wunder von Bern (in English, "The Miracle of Bern").

I also liked Damned United, although I think it paints a too negative picture of Brian Clough.

Actually the film was a lot kinder to Clough than the book was!

Haven't seen Will yet.  Watched the trailer and it looked good, but they showed the entire plot-line of the film, including a cameo from a certain monarch ;) :(
